TGIF — some morning pics of the tank. I’m growing fond of the French Angel - BIG & bold!

Still figuring out why the CaRx is too loud. Going to buy another pump just in case.
Just bought a replacement Water Blaster HY-5000 pump for the Reef Octopus CR-5000D from Aquacave. Will see how this goes. I'll swap it out, deep clean, and save as a backup. The loud humming is bothering me actually. I hope I don't have to move this monster CaRx from underneath the tank!

Is it the humming from the motor or the sound of bubbles propagating through the unit that you can hear? That is a pretty big pump, I wonder if it is the hum if you could just use like a Varios 2 or something. You really dont need very high flow through the reactor. Interested to see how your new pump performs.

I have some coral skeletons on the bottom of the first chamber swirling around - no big deal and will quiet down. It's the humming sound of the pump, resonating thru the elevated board within the stand that's bothering me. I've tried to put a sound absorbing mat but that didn't work.

Frag tank update: need to reduce my N&P - still off the charts and the Hanna LR couldn’t even test! lol

I’ve been dosing 25mL of Vodka and 40 drops of PhosphateRx for NO3, PO4; respectively.

Bought a massive 6” Naso tang from a friend of mine, currently in the frag tank. Can two Naso tangs live together in the 450gal? I already have a 7” blonde naso currently. Ok as long as there is enough room?

Thanks guys — will let it settle in the frag tank for observation. Nothing goes into the 450gal unless healthy for a month.

I’ve yanked 3 fish (Kleine butterfly and 2 Lemonpeel angels) that were suspects in the massacre of multiple zoas colonies in the frag tank. These will go to the 450gal’s sump or another reefer. IMG_2813.jpeg

The 450gal is almost on auto-pilot, no more fish additions and just letting LPS grow out. I managed to put 2 SPS frags in there but likely they won't make it long term. Anyway, NO3 is slowly creeping to 27 but PO4 is climbing to 0.75!

NO3: when I dosed vodka, I noticed that the Emperator was hiding for 2 days straight so I stopped. Oxygen deprived? Should I resume? I might want to install the sulfur reactor? That stuff scares me -- might nuke the tank!

PO4: so far, that can be manually be dosed every month with PhosphateRx but I'm also worried about the tangs. There are some urban myths around affecting the Yellow Tangs. I've dosed this before w/o any issues.

What do you guys suggest?

Do you have an ORP probe? If not, I would get one and add ozone. I would back off of the vodka dosing except for the portion that goes to the reefer:)
Nope - currently don't have ORP, never watched this. I understand that my pH is low (or need to re-calibrate my pH probe). I've been thinking about ways to increase pH actually.

Ozone - never done that before as well so will need to research.

Vodka: this reefer hates vodka! He prefers scotch/cognac...

XO is my favor cognac. and McCallum's 18 year old:)

BB you have every other piece of equipment you might as well get ozone. You don't have to run it more than a few hours per day. I find it a valuable tool

BRS had a video about PH and its relation to coral growth. I definitely do not consider this scientific evidence but the state a PH of 8.3 make a big difference over the course of a year

It used to be XO but Cordon Bleu has been my favorite the last 5 years. Indeed, any Maccullan is good. You have great taste!

Ozone scares me and I've never done one for the last 30+ years in saltwater hobby... will take a look. Thanks again

I'm already running a CO2 scrubber on the SPS tank & it peaks at 8.51. Understand that it might help with SPS; but I'm not sure how to do this for the 450gal though. It might be also cost prohibitive for this size of the tank? What's the cost vs benefit? That's why I'm still contemplating and haven't aggressively chase this pH butterfly...

Oh cool - didn’t know that these SPS corals can be chopped up, glued, and come back to life? Talk about immortality! Well, let’s hope these little dudes are immortal since I made 20+ frags today! :thinking-face:

Once encrusted, these bad boys will make their way to the 450gal next door! Even with similar parameters, it’s weird that I still can’t keep SPS on the 450gal. They degrade in health and die in 3-4 weeks, even encrusted frags! :(

Learn something new everyday! My 5”+ Blue Angelfish is a ferocious eater, super aggressive toward other angels, beautiful, and a…cleaner fish?!$$@

She serves as a cleaning station for the big sailfin, which turns completely dark to be cleaned! Now even other smaller fish would come to the party! I’ll need to catch this on video but that’s an interesting observation.

@fishguy242 you got a giant Blue as well right? Same behavior?
