Hey BB
sorry to hear you are still having issues. Do you have a deep sand bed? This could be the source of your issue. Fill a beaker with fresh saltwater and dump some sand from the tank or sump. Let it sit overnight. Test it for nitrate. If you get a reading then that is the issue.

Thanks, Dan.

My source water is 1 TDS and I haven’t changed the membrane in a year. I’ve just changed all my RODI membrane and filters so will see.

Anyway, the denitrator will go online today. I’ve used it before and it worked well! ;) I can switch back to vodka once NO3 is under control.

Nice! Left one for the reef and right for the reefer? :)

I see that you’re doing equal parts of vinegar, vodka, and RODI — DYI NOPOX, sans some secret alcohol sauces?
That Popov vodka is gasoline, lol. I won't even cook pasta with that trash of a vodka. But, I Can't beat 8.99 for a 1.75 liter!

I make it slightly more potent than the usual recipe per 1000ml. 450ml of vinegar, 450ml vodka, only 100ml RODI.

Good idea, since your in triple digits for No3, prolly the best measure to drop it fairly quickly without massive w/c's. I've always been into minimum water changes, usually only 10-15% a month and with a 450g display, that's still massive imo. Flip is that instead of dropping coin on salt, your gonna spend nearly as much to dose to keep up Alk, Cal, Mag and trace elements. In your case it's a danged if you do or danged if you don't.

I’m good on dosing alk & ca- I got a ginormous Reef Octopus 5000D calcium reactor! ;)

Frag Tank update - biodenitrator is up and running. It’s super quiet and bullet-proof after 15+ years! Gotta love German engineering.

Also, I bought a Kamoer with @danreef55 from AliExpress and it was sitting around doing nothing so decided to put it to work! Doing 10ml/min thru the reactor now. This is very controllable! :)

If this works better than vodka, I’ll build a bigger one for the 450gal. However, so far — vodka is keeping NO3 at 50 with 23 medium/large fish so ain’t bad.

I fired up a test run on my Kamoer this weekend also and it is indeed easy to use and built like a tank.

Yup — this is my second one. The first one is used as an (expensive) ATO pump! Kamoer makes very good peristaltic pumps actually, compared to the Ecotech Versa.

I bought more of those tubes — should last me a couple of years.
