I have two Banggai Cardinals in QT with the TTM for velvet and ich with two treatments of prazi. They are currently at day 5 of 12. They received one dose of prazi on day 2 and the smaller one defecated a long, thin, white parasite within 24 hrs. The larger cardinal started eating frozen mysis shrimp two days ago, but the smaller one has not eaten anything in 5 days. None of my LFS have live food. The larger one has been swimming around a lot, but the smaller one spends 95% of the time in a bottom corner of the aquarium. There has not been much obvious aggression. There is a 2" PVC tee in the aquarium, but they almost never use it to hide.

Is it normal for them to not want to eat for a while if they recently had parasites? Should I buy frozen blood worms and try that? There is always an air stone in the tank that circulates the food around for a while before it settles. 10 gallon tanks. Ammonia has never gone above 0. No gross signs of velvet or ich. The schedule is below.

  • Day 0 (Monday 2/15/21): Added to QT #1 6:20pm
  • Day 1 (Tuesday 2/16/21): Remain in QT #1.
  • Day 2 (Wednesday 2/17/21): 1st Transfer to QT #2 at 6:00am. Dose Praziquantel (1/2 tsp) at 6pm.
  • Day 3 (Thursday 2/18/21): 2nd Transfer to QT #1 at 6pm
  • Day 4 (Friday 2/19/21): Remain in QT #1.
  • Day 5 (Saturday 2/20/21): 3rd transfer to QT #2 at 6am.
  • Day 6 (Sunday 2/21/21): 4th transfer to QT #1 at 6pm
  • Day 7 (Monday 2/22/21): Remain in QT #1
  • Day 8 (Tuesday 2/23/21): Remain in QT #1. Dose Praziquantel (1/2 tsp) at 5pm.
  • Day 9 (Wednesday 2/24/21): 5th Transfer to QT #2 BEFORE 5:00pm
  • Day 10 (Thursday 2/25/21): Remain in QT #2
  • Day 11 (Friday 2/26/21): Remain in QT #2.
  • Day 12 (Saturday 2/27/21): 6th Transfer to QT #1 BEFORE 4:00pm

Very normal.
Keep trying, only meaty foods mine eat, they pass at all else.
Frozen brine/Mysis.......Parasite infests gills.....so they stop eating.
Keep up treatment.
Keep trying to feed.

Think I should try another meaty food like frozen blood worms or keep at it with frozen mysis?
Won’t hurt, you can give it a shot, but always offer normal food as well.
As they lose the parasite, eating may start with just 1-2 Mysis so watch carefully.
Your doing all the right things.

Why offer normal flakes too?
Flakes, nope, mine don’t touch nothing but Mysis and brine.
Just be sure when you attempt to feed, always feed what they had eaten before.

I fed mine with no flow out of a long piece of rigid 1/4” airline tube with a syringe glued to the end.

I’d drop a Mysis right in front of her face, slowly she started to eat on her own. 41CF893C-CC4A-4258-AA7E-E4D78F18E9EE.jpeg

If your lfs has live blackworms (for freshwater fish). Try it. My 2 banggai cardinals never refuse blackworms.
