So I'm not having any luck with Banggai Cardinalfish. Part of the mistake seems to be that I'm really really bad at figuring out males vs. females. But that did lead me to wonder about the iridovirus. Does anybody know about how long iridovirus can lie fallow? Can other fish host the disease? Is a tank doomed for banggais if the virus ever gets into the system?

Are you asking about Lymphocystis? Once a fish has it, they have it for life. And yes, it can infect other fish in the tank. But if a fish's immune system is sound, it usually doesn't present.
