Hello fellow saltiness,
I know barley straw is used as an algae inhibitor in freshwater (especially ponds) because it releases H202. 3% hydrogen peroxide dosing is also used in saltwater for the same purpose. Has anyone tried barley in a mesh bag in saltwater or are there other things released from barley in saltwater that make it undesirable (like small barley pieces)? It seems to me it would be an ideal "set it and forget it" scenario unlike H202 dosing where you have to manually do it each night for a certain period or have a doser. I came across this thread that talks about hydrogen peroxide dosing and references barley straw for freshwater.
@vetteguy53081 have you heard of barley straw being used in saltwater tanks?
