Thanks again for all the feed back on this thread! I have been able to add a couple of things to my arsenal that I am sure will make life easier.

Definitely my smart ATO. As a new reefer myself, if I didn’t have it, it would be really annoying to keep my salinity on point. A must have if you ask me.

My apex has been a life changer for me and anything that I own from EcoTech (radions, MP40’s) has made the hobby what’s its supposed to feel like.

I agree with all said so far. A well built calcium reactor (SPS Junky) and one thing a decade has taught me, quality power heads.

Sounds funny enough, but mine happens to be my ADJ PC-100A power strip with individual on and off switches for all 8 outlets. I don't think I could go without it or at least something similar. It makes my tank maintenance a breeze. I use it on a daily basis or every other day. The best $30 I have spent so far.

My shadow overflow. It's often overlooked or forgotten but the ready made overflows to plumb drains in the bean animal style made it possible to have a silent reef tank. I couldn't even imagine having a reef tank in my bedroom without one.

I'm gonna go with the crowd and say ATO. It's been the most beneficial piece ever..
atk is my most troublesome piece of equipment and has accounted for most time and troubles.I have purchased a tunze to replace, so Yes a good top off is a MUST
Under gravel filter. :D
Am I just gullible?

No! I just bought a new one for my tank move in a week. Not very easy to get. First they have to stop laughing. :D

I am aware of the rule, No undergravel filter! ......BUT... bare bottom with LR vs aragonite w/UGF ...same thing only different,.... both serve to export.....less the air stones of course and 5 years from now it will be all the rage...go figure.

That's a bummer! I couldn't tell you what brands mine are (cheap). I go for a mostly mechanical and simple approach to make it dummy-proof for me.
Float switch in the sump to signal fill up, float switch in the ATO to keep the ATO pump from running dry. I do like the idea behind the Icecap, having fill/stop sensors adjacent in the sump.
I think I'm going to add another to prevent the return pump from running dry...Never had any false positives on the aTO but I could imagine somehow a blockage could prevent the ATO pump from running.
