Are you tunning any other powerheads? With the RFG (I have the 1") pointed at the opposite corner, are you getting enough flow around the sand bed?
I’m curious as well

When I spoke with VCA about flow, for this tank, and the current pump, and their rfg being mounted on one side…the told me absolutely it could provide enough flow to eliminate the need for powerheads. And they have office tanks run just from rfg+return pump and no power heads

I am a bit skeptical but I do trust their knowledge. I’ve just never run a setup like this. It seems too good to be true but I am willing to experiment and can always add a power head if needed.

From the results legion is experiencing it seems like VCA is correct

I have a slw 20 on the opposite side set on random. Past lvl the return with the rfg will tear up a Duncan and a octo on the opposite side.

So no Euphyllia on the left side of the tank. That's ok. I was thinking the Mp40 could go on the right side to give counterflow to the bounceback flow of the return. This seems like it'll be a LOT of trial and error.

Anyone working on control boards?

I am thinking of making a budget pegboard control board. Eventually I want to get rid of bricks using something like the DCBuddy, but waiting for the HD version that can support LEDs.

You can check out our build thread here - a full 134-gallon Mixed reef tank with now powerheads ;-)

or on our instagram page

The RFG, given enough flow will definitely reach the other side of the tank with flow and movement

one interesting thing you can do with an RFG is dial in the rate in which it randomizes, and cause it to begin to resonate with the tank and create a standing wave (like a wavemaker on pulse mode)

basically - the higher the flow rate going through the RFG the faster it will change directions of the flow exiting the nozzle. the slower the speed, the slower the effect. With a DC pump, you can adjust the speed to sort of tweak the rate at which the RFG randomizes the flow. With a little effort you can dial it in to match your tank dimensions. This technique works best with a single RFG in a tank at one end - like in this these tanks,

The quality is there also the tank and cabinet are really nice. I was surprised when I removed my sump they had a foam mat under it. Same for the tank. Also little felt pads where the plumbing connectors come close to the rear glass so the black finish doesn’t get scratched. Brackets to hold the weight of the plumbing. Guide rails for the ato to slide on.

Did your ato come with a lid? It should.
Yeah, I got the lids for the ato, sump, and the overflow. And I just received the strainer today. It's a super nice setup. I love it.

Yeah, I got one for the inside and one for the outside.
I'm going to have to see if I have that. I haven't unpacked what's inside of the ATO container. Fingers crossed I have a strainer and overflow lids in there! I know there's an ATO lid and I already have the sump sock chamber lid (although the spacers are too wide by a mm and I have to dremel them down).

My inside and outside overflow lids were packed with the return plumbing parts sandwiched between 2 pieces of cardboard taped together

Do you guys think two of those kessil a360x lights will be enough for this tank?
I imagine it depends on you scape. I'm not experienced with a360x, just a160we, but two cannon lights over a 4 ft tank might give a lot of shady spots. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
