I have had a titanium heater with a controller for 6 years, along with a Jager backup set a few degrees lower . I'm thinking it's time to get a replacement. Has anybody tried the new BRS controllable heaters yets? The reviews seem to be mixed.

2x Jagers at something like 60% required wattage so if one gets stuck on, it wont overheat my tank.

I'm curious how the BRS will do over time.
I just started using a finex with a Johnson Controls / Penn controller, steady and always at 77 deg. shrink tube and sealed the probe, using a traceable thermometer the controller is right on the money.

Does this have outlets on side or back which turn on when the temp is low? Its heat only right not cool?

This will do Heat or cool, not both. I would think you could find a model that has two sets of programmable contacts.
You have to hard-wire your own power cords. I used old computer cords. The best thing would be to buy an inexpensive extension cord and cut in half , then

The cord grip above will allow you to run all your cords into 1 KO as opposed to the ones pre wired and sold

Best heater imo is the neotherm heater. If you have a misshap on a water change or something and it comes out of the water it wont bust inside your tank when it touches the water agai.
I currently have 3 on my 75 gallon and over the course of a month it hasnt been able to keep my temp stable, has slowly dropped my tank temp to 74 degrees when its set up to be 78 on all 3 heaters.

The black cobalt with the rectangle game shape or the black aqueon “pro”. They blend decent with the black backgrounds I like on fish cantered aquAriums.

I have 2 JBJ True Temps with controllers. 800wt & 1000wt. I've thought about going lower wattage & shorter so I can put on or both in my sump.

I've tried every brand over the years and I always have the best luck with the Eheim Jagers. I actually run three smaller heaters to help with one getting stuck on or one failing.

I have and old Eheim Jager on my 110g, and am thinking of replacing it for a few reasons:

1) It is super long and hard to put in and remove from the sump
2) Due to the length, it is also hard to reach into the sump and observe or adjust it's setting
3) It is very old (8-10 years, I think)

I haven't researched heaters in years, but after a quick glance, the titaniums look pretty nice. Very small, and I would think more durable. Any downsides? I'm thinking of investing in one of two of these and a controller.

Sorry, if these have been answered already. I'm sorta new here, and just about to get started on this 26 page leviathan.

titanium refers to the outer cover, so what's inside 'could' be exactly the same. The main advantage is that they aren't as fragile as the glass heaters.

Definitely a good idea to use a controller. Would recommend two + controller for redundancy.
