Had to choose other, surprised Lifereef didn't make the list @revhtree

Love my Lifereef, simple, easy to tune, and will last many many years. It currently sits dry but can't wait to get it running again on my new build.

If I had to purchase over again the only thing I would do is purchase the model with the flange on top to upgrade the skimmer down the road and make cleaning it easier.

I "upgraded" my Bubble Magus to a Royal Exclusiv 6 months ago. I'm not saying it isn't producing better looking foam, but it's WAY louder, a PITA to clean, already had to warranty it and some screws are still rusting. The BM also did the job (pulling everything from the water) just as well for 1/6 the price. So I'm never buying RE again.

I think as far as value goes, I’d say bubblemagus. I’ve owned a nac 3.5 for I think six years now. It’s still chugging along and producing great skimmate. I tried a similar-sized simplicity dc skimmer and didn’t see any real benefit over the bubblemagus.

I run two a bubble magus curve 5 and the Coralife 75 cone skimmer Both are over sized for the systems they are on and those systems are new and lightly populated systems. I voted other because of the question Which is the best? I have no clue lol. I am happy with both of mine maybe happier with the curve because it has a pop off cup while the coralife has a threaded connection cup.

I had to pick 'other'. I've had many different skimmers and they all work. Some maybe a bit better than others, but who really cares?

Hey, we are all biased towards what we own. And since we don't know any better, we all think ours is the best and we would never use a different brand. Unfortunately, my "brand" isn't made anymore. MTC HSA-1000. Love it and have been using it almost 20 years now.

red sea's RSK skimmers have gone better than their previous skimmers but its still not any better than the leading brads in protein skimming.
I just like my nyos because they dont take up too much space in the sump and its quet and effiecient thats it

I still use my old school H&S recirculating skimmer. It’s a tad small for my 180 but still does the job. I’ve been using it for at least 10 years or so.

I voted bubble magus.

Been using a curve 5 elite for a couple years now. Great little skimmer that was made even better with a sicce pump.

Never used anything different, other then some HOB skimmers, and an SCA 302.

@revhtree no ASM? I wonder how many still use the ASM G series? IMO one of the best skimmers I ever used. If they weren’t a tad loud I would have bought another when I broke mine.

Currently using Reef Octo Essence 130 and have been very pleased. Very quiet and easy to dial in out of the box with the numbered output flow control. They are easy enough to break down when full cleaning is needed even with the pump mounted inside the chamber.

I have to say that the Bubble Magus Curve 5 I used for a coupe years is a very viable cost effective option. It worked well for my main tank and now runs on my son's 80 gallon system. It’s a little oversized for his tank by recommendation sizing but still gets some nice thick green skimmate from the water.

I have used Vertex in the past. I tried them because they seemed to have many fans and people who recommended them but I could not ever seem to get it dialed in for the life of me. I ended up selling it and got the RO E130, oohhh happpyyyy daaaayyyyy!

Next build will likely go with LifeReef. Hopefully a bigun’ too!
