Well another month has gone by. Still have a handle on the outbreak. A few months, bunch of water changes, a few doses of fluconozole and I have control of my reef once again. Better husbandry on my part is going to be my first defense against new outbreaks. I have put my skimmer back online and began dosing 2 part to keep numbers in line. The chaeto I put in the sump running opposite display light cycle seems to be holding up this time. Corals are coming back, I’m still seeing the mouth of rock flowers basically flipped inside out. Any ideas on what may be causing this or how to reverse it? I also added some denitrate by seachem in a media bag to help assist with nitrate control. The last photo posted of sump section has been drained and wiped clean before skimmer, denitrate, and chaeto were added. A few pics to keep me up to date. I’ll try and update every month to see if any other algae or bacteria issues show them selves. I have to say I’m excited again! One other question, would I benefit from live sand in the fuge area in a bare bottom system? Or should I leave it bare also? Thanks for all the help thus far..

Bonus. I’ve had several appear but always seem to get outgrown by normal polyps. This little guy is super bright green with a fat purple stripe off centered that just happed to pop up on the outer edge of the colony. I was able to clip it off and separate with no issues. Any suggestions or recommendations on how to grow this, will babies look like it or original? I’ll be sure and keep you guys posted..

Excellent results from the Flucon! We have tanks that are running in 5-20%(depending on nutrient load) of the original dosage of flucon that have been algae free for about a year now. Continuous usage of low dosage Flucon can be used to keep your tank gha/bryopsis free.A couple of well known vendors is doing this now as well. We've even got tanks that are running on no water changes for months now and still have no algae what so ever in them. (I'm not suggesting that you don't perform water changes though,I'm just letting you know that we are safely running systems that way). What we are seeing is that once a month water changes and replacing the 5-20% flucon has had great results. Most of the tanks we consider in the "normal" range of nutrients has been on 10%(which is around 2mg/gal). We have some "high"nutrient systems that are running 4mg/gal and have still had no algae in months.

We have been mainly running these experiments for GHA as the few tanks that we had with Bryopsis were left alone after one treatment to see if the results were lasting. Those tanks are still Bryopsis free for almost a year now.

Contrary to what someone here that keeps trollling the algae threads says,we are NOT having Bryopsis return in most of the treated systems. You can look through the Flucon thread and see a handful of people say that they have had it to return on them with some of those people admitting to not being sure that it was Bryopsis or GHA instead in the first place. GHA can/will return in a saltwater system when the conditions are right for its growth. Bryopsis won't return unless you reintroduce it into your system or some of the Bryopsis cells remained in your tank allowing it's regeneration.

Like I said we are using the continuous use mainly for GHA(but it will work for bryopsis as well) and to see what impact it has on these systems.
