Went to Aquashella Orlando over the weekend, I really enjoyed it. It is a very different experience from the other big reef shows. Ended up picking up some new coral at the show and from Chaos Aquaculture on their Facebook auction, early Father's day gifts. Also tested Alk with the Hanna checker again and this time was at 8.1 right were I want it! I think I have my dosing dialed in now so hopefully I can keep it stable.

Well thought I finally had the dosing dialed in but tested with the Hanna checker and I was at 8.4 this week. Not a crazy change but I don't want to over do it so I'll just keep up the twice weekly testing.

What all level do you try to keep? I’ll be honest and say I’ve had fluctuations of almost 1 dkh in a few day to a few days time span and have never noticed much of an issue. But I agree, it’s those kind of fluctuations that scare me enough to keep up with testing. I’d call that a good catch from a great reefer bud!

Thank you, goal is to get it looking like that beauty of a 40 you have! Level wise just trying to keep it as close to 8.1 dkh as possible. Since I'm hand dosing still I have been all over the place and really was just wanting to see if it would be possible for me to get it a little bit more stable. I agree with you that it really hasn't hurt anything, and it isn't really that crazy of a jump.

Tested again today and my Hanna says the Alk is back down to 7.7 dkh. As I'm sitting there plugging this number into my aquarium app it dawned on me. My Alk keeps dipping after my water change and I switched to Fritz blue box which has a lower Alk. I also don't dose on the day I do water changes, can't believe it took me this long to realize this.
On an interesting note, the no name acro I picked up a while back maybe ORA Dustin's Deepwater Acro. Think it would be pretty cool if it is since the original colony is said to have been lost.

I'm sitting here relaxing on vacation and up pops a 550 gallon acrylic tank on a Facebook group. Only $1800, its a freshwater drilled tank. Trying to convince the wife that this is a needed upgrade haha! Also I have been wondering is it difficult to turn a freshwater into a saltwater tank?

550 gallons! Did you pull the trigger? I can’t imagine the fact that it was a freshwater setup making much of a difference. If it’s drilled for a sump and return……….I think your good. 550 gallons!!! Dang!

I could not convince my wife to let me go that big, yet. To be honest I don't even know where I would put something that big right now, just got to keep dreaming for now haha

Did a water change yesterday and cut my yuma and its babies off the rockwork so I could move them over to the Waterbox. Also removed the Jedi Mindtrick Monti off the rockwork to give the Acros more space to spread out, that was not fun and I wasn't able to get all of it off.

Wow didn't realize how much time passed by since my last update, life has been going full speed now that the kids are back in school. Tanks have been steadily chugging along, trying to keep up with weekly water changes but missed a couple here and there. Invested some of the money I have made off of frags and today I am mixing up my first batch of All-for-reef powder!

Corals are looking good no crazy growth but steady growth so I'm happy. With limber prices dropping again finally I may start to put the acrylic frag tank back together and get it going.

Wow it's been over a month since last update. So where to begin, tanks are doing pretty good with a couple of hiccups. Started battling what I believe to be green cyano. Not really sure what happened to cause it, only thing I can think of is I may have been feeding too much. Cut back on the feeding and trying to reduce nitrates and phosphates slowly. The awesome no name Acro I got from Aquashella and my Mystic Sunset Monti started to STN, both have seemed to have stopped for now. The Mystic Sunset has already started to recover. The acro though is barely hanging on, here is the sad few polyps left:

The colors are so awesome and I really hope I can get it to recover. Daytona Beach had its first frag swap a couple of weekends back (Reeftoberfest) and it was a great time! I picked up 4 more no name Acros from the SaltwaterAquarium.com booth. I also won 3 of the raffles, I picked up 2 $50 giftcards. One to Living Reef Orlando and the other to Top Shelf Aquatics. The other raffle was for a small red Sea blue bucket of salt and a few fritz products. Can't wait to see how the new corals color and grow. Ok enough talking more pictures

Lots of ups and downs over the past 2 months, wish I documented better. Still battling some hair algae and possibly cyano but not sure about that one. Been trying to keep up with weekly water changes but I do miss a week from time to time. My peppermint shrimp disappeared and now my Aiptasia is starting to take off again. I'm on the look out for a small copperband so I can let it start picking in the biocube and then move it over to the frag tank once it's finished.
On the positive side the STN has stopped and my no name Acro and Mystic Sunset Monti have colored back up. They seem to be growing again as well. I mixed up my second batch of All-for-reef powder and I have to say I absolutely love it! Picked up a booster pump and a few other things during the SaltwaterAquarium.com black Friday sales. I built a platform for my RODI and just purchased a 20 gallon Brute trash can from Lowes so I can store my freshwater. Eventually I will upgrade and setup a mixing station but this will help speed up water changes for now. I didn't take any pictures of the water station yet. Rest of the corals are looking good and slowly growing. I think at some point I will be investing in the Hydros controllers and will automate the dosing finally.
All in all both tanks are doing pretty well and I am ready to enjoy the holidays, ok picture time!!
