SCIENTIFIC NAME: Chaetodon melannotus

COMMON NAME: Blackback Butterflyfish

SIZE: 5.9†(15 cm)

MIN. AQUARIUM SIZE: 55 US Gal (208 L)

FOODS & FEEDING: Feeds on marine fish, crustacean flesh, mysid shrimp, and frozen preparations. Should be fed a varied diet a minimum of 3 times per day.

REEF COMPATIBILITY: With caution; Eats soft corals and may nip at stony corals.

CAPTIVE CARE: This species readily adapts to captivity, accepting a wide variety of foods. The Blackback Butterflyfish has a bold disposition, but only one shouldbe kept per tank unless a proven pair can be obtained. They are rarely aggressive, but may display some aggression toward fish with similar coloration. Vitamin enriched and color enhancing foods are a must and this species also requires plenty of hiding places and a large swimming area.
