@blackizzz hello there from Canada, I see u on zeovit forum which I follow regularly. I just started checking out R2R lately. I have been running zeo for about a year in my 120G. I struggle to get good solid growth with my sps & coloration comes & goes. Lately I have been considering allowing my dKH to rise from 7.0 where it is stable for a long time to 8.0 or so to see if that helps with the growth. you have some awesome colours in this thread

Welcome to Reef2Reef! If your nutrients are low (which I assume since you're running zeo) I'd advice you against raising your KH. At the moment I'm not running zeovit, since I wanted to raise my nutrient levels to eliminate dino's.
If I were you I'd do a couple 10-15% waterchanges over a week or two's time using a good salt. There could be a lack of some trace element.
Again, welcome to R2R, hope to see you start a thread here as well! :D

Something exciting is brewing in the shallows ;)

I’ve decided to start working on an upgrade.
I’m going to double the footprint, going from approx. 30x20 to 40x30. New tank is also slightly taller at 17in instead of 13.5-14.

I started the planning a few months ago, by deciding on the measurements and that I wanted to try my hand on siliconing my own tank :)

Ordered 10mm glass, 3 sides optiwhite/low iron and waited.

Test fitting the glass

Drilling

Test filling was “fun”, but a success!

I decided I wanted to use a smaller profile overflow box for this tank, and landed on the modular marine 1200gph version. Initial impressions without hearing it running, good quality and looks great in the tank.

What I’m going to use as a background I’m undecided on at the moment. I had a custom made one made, based on one of my favorite builds ever (a reef in the sky), but I’m wondering if maybe all black would be a good choice instead. I’ll probably end up test fitting the background and if it looks great I’ll keep it, if not I’ll go tried and tested black.

Next up, stand!

One of the biggest flaws with my current tank is the stand. It’s almost impossible to do any kind of work in the sump area, and getting to the electronics is, well, a pain to say the least.

Consisting of only painted MDF it’s sturdy, but prone to chipping and not really fond of water.

I decided to go with an aluminum profile stand, rated for easily 8-10x the weight.

Bottom and top will be covered by 19mm MDF, primed and painted enough times to avoid chipping (lesson learned). But will also only be visible once you open the cabinet doors.

I also set out to start dry-routing the plumbing, which is now done with the exception of a gate valve which I will take from the old tank.

So this is how it looks at the moment, excuse my work-space (haha!)

Next up equipment :)

Equipment-wise I’m trying to use as much of the current equipment as possible, but it turns out I’m planning to use less and less :p

Lights I initially planned on getting another ATI hybrid to replace my current. But I got a great deal on two basically brand new G4 Pros, so I will be using those to begin with, and if I find it necessary I’ll add T5’s later. But I figure if I mount them high I’ll be alright considering tank depth.

Flow I’m still undecided on. I’ll keep my MP10’s (hopefully they won’t struggle too much with the 10mm glass) but I’ll need to add more. Currently considering two MP40’s or two XF330. Since I use reeflink at the moment (for Vectra, Radion and Mp10), I’m leaning towards the MP40s, but the gyres are tempting!

If anyone has any input I’ll gladly take it!

Other than lights and flow I’m going to use a Theiling Compact on the overflow to try to polish the water a little bit :)

I’m still undecided whether to use Zeovit on the new tank, but as my tank is doing quite well at the moment without, I’m holding off on that decision for a while.

Other equipment is still on the table, but most likely I’ll start by using my Pac-sun Kore 5th for dosing, maybe replace that down the line.

The stand will be divided in half by a sheet of acrylic, one half will contain the sump (my old one will be used, I like the layout and dimensions) and the other half will contain electronics, dosing pump, misc etc etc.

New tank sump.jpg

Still working on it "IRL" but my goal is to have the vortech "control panel" able to fold down to get that out of the way when not adjusting anything while still providing plenty of availability when needed. If I decide to use XF330's that controller will fit on this panel as well, instead of two vortech controllers :)

For the time being, I'll continue to use my Curve 5 skimmer, but if/when I find a good deal on another skimmer that I find tempting, it'll probably be swapped out :)

Slowly working on the new tank, received the first of two MP40’s and the second will be bought soon enough :)

In the meantime while working on the new tank, I decided to change out my Hybrid for the new Radions on the old tank, and then post the hybrid for sale to fund new fun stuff ;)

Quite a rudimentary mounting of the new lights above the tank, but it works and they do as well :)

I’ve been running my hybrid at 100% for T5’s and 65% (I think) for LEDs, but so I don’t chock the corals I’ve set the radions to 25% for now. It looks visually dimmer, but I’ll test the PAR soon and then increase accordingly slowly!

Using SPSAB+ schedule, and so far so good (1hr later hehe)

Found a great deal for a new skimmer, and it’s a monster  hopefully it’ll fit in my sump and I definitely won’t have any stocking restrictions due to skimmer size hehe:p

The size comparison between my old skimmer cup and the new one is quite hilarious, and build quality is just insane on the new one. Hopefully it’ll be a little quieter once it gets in proper water as it was making a little more noise than anticipated when in a bucket.

I’ll keep the model a secret until I can get some good photos ;)
