I am going to buy this blonde naso tang from a local reefer, but I noticed that its colors are dull. The seller said that she’s had it since it was 1-2” and it’s about 3” now. She said that it hasn’t colored up to its normal color yet. Is this normal? Pictures provided

I guess it's not to far off but looks skinny and under fed/poor nutrition. When the fish ages it will develop color on the face and around the eyes. Also around the tangs if that's what there called on tail fin. I see them fairly regularly at the lfs. I've had poor success with small naso tangs.

She’s had it for a while, would 3” be considered small?

I would also going to say it looks skinny. Maybe the other tangs not letting it eat or internal issues.

I would wait for a healthy one unless it is a good enough deal, then ask to see it eat and QT it.

Yes but more likely to be successful with this one than say a fish straight from the ocean. As they go threw alot of crap to get to a lfs. I lost two from the lfs within a week of purchase.
Definitely looks malnourished. For a fish in captivity would suggest lack of feeding or internal parasites.
I didn't even think of parasites very possible if the other fish look good. My other thought is if there caught with cyanide which I think is more common than people realize.

I agree that it doesn't look good. It needs QTd and power fed. I also see ich, possibly.

Cyanide death would present itself rather quicklynin captivity.

The time it took a fish to grow a few inches in a tank, you'd be able to rule out cyanide capturing.
Yea that's what I was thinking so it should be ruled out in this case. Just thinking that is what could be going on with the two I tried.

Put it in a qt tank and dose metroplex looks like it’s got parasites . Keep an eye on the poo you can some times tell by it . Sometimes it’s hard to tell but if it eats and it’s not getting bigger it definitely has em

I’ve had my Neso for about 3 years now eats like a pig lol .

Fish is very thing, looks lethargic and very low in color likely due to poor diet and lack of fats and aminos.
Assure it eats or else pass on it. Some foods to feed:
LRS herbivore diet
Formula 2 flake and frozen
TDO Pellets
small plankton
Hikari Marine cuisine
Ocean nutrition veggie diet
spirulina brine shrimp
mysis shrimp
Prime reef
Nori seaweed basted with garlic extract

Add selcon vitamins to foods occasionally

As stated above, the fish looks pale and very thin for a fish the previous owner had since it was 1-2". Have the local reefer feed the fish and make note of what it likes to eat so you can provide it with the same food if you buy it and have in quarantine. It looks to be newly imported and I think that might be why it looks funny to most here. Best of luck on the fish if you purchase it.
