So this was more of an impulse buy last week at the LFS since the QT sat empty!
I know....I should have had Formalin on hand and done a dip...but I didn't
!
Fish were introduced into the QT which was pre-dosed w/ 1.0 of CP.
The following day I dosed Metro and the following day with GC.
I've been dosing Metro every 48hrs and GC every 5 days and raised CP to 2.5 in 3 days!
Also feeding GC/Focus twice a day!

I did loss a fish the following day after they were introduced into the QT.
There were no classics red markings on the fish.

Rest are doing and eating well with no "visual" signs of Uronema! (Knock on wood)
Plans are to keep them in QT for:
CP for 30 days
14 days under observation !
Total of 45 days (+/-)

What else should I be doing! I know CP will do little to nothing for Uronema!

BTW...I do keep my water at 1.026 in QT since this makes it easier when I do water changes!

How many chromis in the group?

Can you help me out - you're treating Metro and GC, but GC contains metronidazole, doesn't Hikari Metro also?

I'm not a fan of dosing GC in focus/food AND dosing the water. I just dose the water and forgo the focus, since the dose isn't accurate anyway.

I'd run the tank at a lower SG, but I do understand about having ready water for make-up. Still, I'd just add some tap water to the mix and use it at around 1.022

Power feed these guys - multiple times per day, high fat/protein food, like Otohime pellets, tiny mysids, etc.

Thanks @Jay Hemdal
Started with 5 now only 4 in this group!
I never really understood why treat the water column and the food GC.
I took at face value since it was plastered all over the forums and on YT.

I could drop the water to 1.022 since I did splurge on a ATO for the QT!

Feeding multiple times a day will be tuff since I have to work!
I do feed twice a day sometimes 3 times if I get home early!
Guess an inexpensive auto feeder may be needed!

3x day is fine, small frequent feedings until they get well adapted. I don’t think it is important enough to get an auto feeder.

Thanks!
Dropped from 1.026 to 1.024 and I'll drop it down to 1.022 over the next 2 days!
How long should I dose GC and Metro for?

After the QT and observation period...could I raise the water back up to 1.025 - 6 to match my DT before I transfer them over without issues in the QT?

What about the question of dosing GC and metro at the same time? Am I off base with that possibly being a double dose of Metronidazole?

GC instructions say to dose, repeat after 48 hours, then change 25% of the water 48 hours after that. The trouble is that this will not break the life cycle of egg laying flukes. Still, I am always reluctant to go against a manufacturer's directions. If you want to try that though, wait 10 days and perform a third GC dose, and then a second 25% water change 48 hours after that.

Thanks Jay!
Again took a lot at face value!

If I understood:
  • Dose GC wait 48hrs / Dose GC wait 48hrs / 25% water change / Wait 10 days and repeat the process.
Now...What would you do?
Understanding, it's just your opinion and me picking your brain! ;)

Sorry, no - just three treatments: Dose GC wait 48hrs / Dose GC wait 48hrs / 25% water change / Wait 10 days and dose GC, wait 48 hours and 25% water change, then observe.

Good morning!

On 11/23 my 4 remaining chromis made it thru CP (30 days @ 2.5ppm) and GC!
I started removing CP on 11/24!
Figured I’ll leave them in the QT for a few days under observation! Today I notice one of the chromis with what seems like a blemish I didn’t notice before.
I know CP don’t do anything for uronema but does it suppress it?

I do have formalin on hand and could do a bath but I don’t have another tank!

You have chloroquine? It has been difficult to source since spring. It does suppress Uronema, especially from spreading fish to fish. Are you pretty confident the spot you are seeing is Uronema? I have difficulty telling it from missing scales, etc. when it first starts up.

I can’t tell if it is or isn’t Uronema or my paranoia!
Just don’t recall noticing that spot before!
No chloroquine! They’ve been in QT since 10/20 with no signs!
How long does it take for uronema to show up?

How long does it take for uronema to manifest...I see 2-3 days.
This morning I still the brown spot but doesn't seem like it's growing for getting "red"
Definitely it's not missing scales...but I see them harassing each other!

I'm going to give them another 10-14 days in QT @ 1.025 / 78-79° and 0 meds
I'll try to get a used tank on offerup today...Think a 5G tank for 4 chromis for a few days is OK?
Current QT is 20G with HOB

So all 4 are still in QT!
But one if the chromis developed a white spot on top of its head.
Swimming and eating just fine this morning!
I was hopping to move them over in the next few days
Suggestions? Maybe Safety Stop before they going into the DT?

Ah, so on another message board “CP” stands for chloroquine phosphate. Here, it must stand for copper power...
Don’t rely on safety stop in moving a fish to your DT - dips are rarely 100% effective.
i can’t see the lesion on the head clearly enough, but it is an unusual spot for Uronema. I did get the overall impression the fish was breathing a bit fast.
Is the ammonia level at zero? If they are stable in the 5 gallon, I would be inclined to wait a bit longer.....

Thanks Jay,

Yes CP = copper power! (Sorry for the confusion)
They've been in the same QT tank since 10/20. (25 gallons)
Never moved out to a different tank.
Breathing has been like that since day one.

30 days of copper power @ 2.5ppm and the last few days at low single digit ppm (hanna checker)
I have an ammonia badge which has never spiked and I do test (API) every couple of days.

The dip was more of preventative measure since they've been in QT for 50 days now.
And yesterday I noticed the white spot on top of the head.
