FOODS & FEEDING: The Blue Spot Butterflyfish feeds mostly on Acropora corals and is reluctant to accept substitutes in captivity. Vitamin enriched live brine shrimp, clams, or mashed squid/shrimp on a bleached stony coral skeleton may be used to entice the fish to eat. Once the fish is readily feeding, try offering crustacean flesh, mysid shrimp and frozen preparations for carnivores. This species should be fed at least 3 times per day.
REEF COMPATIBILITY: With caution. This fish will eat stony corals, but may be kept with some soft corals.
CAPTIVE CARE: Reports existof success with this fish in captivity and feeding on a variety of aquariumfoods including flake. However, this is uncommonso hobbyists should make sure the fish is eating prior to purchase. The BlueSpot Butterflyfish can be kept in small groups if the tank is large enough aslong as all specimens are introduced at the same time and they are tolerant ofother Butterflyfish. The blue dashesdevelop as the fish matures.
