I have never, heard of a fish doing this before.
I just got a new convict tang in the display, and the hippo tang lays on him? Like, gently I think?

convict tang is a baby so I have algae all over the tank right now and he grabs pieces here and there. I just got him today.

please see attached video, is this aggression?

Just incase video doesn’t load… here is a display in 4 images of beginning to end. Hippo tang just lays there after the convict tangs moves out from underneath.

The hippos I had in the past don’t follow the same rules as other tangs. That’s gotta be his way of asserting dominance over the new tang. My purple tang would swim on his side going around the new sail fin I added. But after the second day he left the sailfin alone. Good luck with the convict tang, when I use to work fish stores they would come in looking bad. I don’t think they handle being shipped that well.

i cant think

Aggression, they lay on their side on top of the new tang instead of do what other tangs do which is chasing them.

Thanks for the replies.
Hippo has officially left convict tang alone. They swim together now and no more of the laying down behavior.
Convict tang is doing awesome, he’s eating like a pig day two. I got him from TSM Aquatics, highly recommend.
