To be honest, IT may not be worth messing around with the stand. I probably spent too much on wood for mine. I should have downgraded on the wood. That being said, drilling and putting in a cheap overflow to a remote sump may be worth it.Can you please send pics very interested in this idea. Was wanting to build a mini sump for the cabinet I have (the original cabinet which is not a great one tall and skinny.) But it worked have been flowing a oversized canister filter for good filtration.
These are the tiles I think all the big box hardware stores have them in one form or another. You can also look into the PVC lumber if you want something more structural but I've also sandwiched the tiles with PVC pipe glue and it works flawlessly. Hmm. I guess you could build a sump out of the tiles too... (wish I got the black ones - I painted it)
I have no idea of longevity but mine is holding so far for a month or two. I could have silicone-d the inside seems I suppose. CA will break down in 5 years?
I used accelerant on everything and really caked in the corners. I would give it an accelerant bath then drip glue on the seems just for good measure. I bet PVC pipe glue would have been better though. (if all the seems were clean)
Below are all my photos on doing it.
I suppose I could build a funky trickle-down sump out of PVC. Maybe when I replace this with an official frag tank. ;
