Can you please send pics very interested in this idea. Was wanting to build a mini sump for the cabinet I have (the original cabinet which is not a great one tall and skinny.) But it worked have been flowing a oversized canister filter for good filtration.
To be honest, IT may not be worth messing around with the stand. I probably spent too much on wood for mine. I should have downgraded on the wood. That being said, drilling and putting in a cheap overflow to a remote sump may be worth it.
These are the tiles I think all the big box hardware stores have them in one form or another. You can also look into the PVC lumber if you want something more structural but I've also sandwiched the tiles with PVC pipe glue and it works flawlessly. Hmm. I guess you could build a sump out of the tiles too... (wish I got the black ones - I painted it)
I have no idea of longevity but mine is holding so far for a month or two. I could have silicone-d the inside seems I suppose. CA will break down in 5 years?
I used accelerant on everything and really caked in the corners. I would give it an accelerant bath then drip glue on the seems just for good measure. I bet PVC pipe glue would have been better though. (if all the seems were clean)
Below are all my photos on doing it.
I suppose I could build a funky trickle-down sump out of PVC. Maybe when I replace this with an official frag tank. ;

Well got a steal of a deal and going to be adding in a reactor that can be ran for a few hours each day then ran in the frag tank as well easy switch hoping to help with phosphates and nitrates being elevated. Its a brs classic reactor with hardlines. Its not the prettiest but it is something thats going to help the tank. With this being a nano ive ran into some issues with phosphates with feeding a little heavy to be able to accommodate my Pablo til he is relocated in the 90 gallon custom diy build (diamond in the rough thread). Looking forward to this and to see how it does. It will only run on the tank for a few hours for extra filtration to help stabilize the tank nutrients. Have been doing 30% wc weekly but still have high phospates and nitrates.

Its been final tuning these last few days but i am really liking the wifi app it makes things super easy to tune and dial in. Everything in the tank seems to love the light and the range i have being able to control to the 1% is awesome. The pop i get has been amazing during the day and evening and just all in all a huge difference.

Super sad day....i have my cleaner shrimp getting ready to either get the toilet or get punched in the eyeballs....was sleeping to get ready for work tonight and had a weird dream. Woke up checked on tank and saw my cleaner shrimp ripping apart my duncan frag.....like literally shredding the frag. Gave him a pinch with the tweezers on the antennae and checked the duncan. It is ripped to shreds no way of saving and worst part is that was my daughters favorite coral. She would always point at it and say pretty and smile and keep saying pretty. She would always take everyone up to the tank no matter who you were and do that. Sad day and i know she is gonna be heart broke trying to find it.....just gonna have to find another.....anyone have any they are willing to part with. Going to be removing the jerk cleaner and putting him in the fowlr tank for now then poss. Sump bound for the 55g frag tank when its up and running.

Yeah they’re huge! I’ve never had good luck with zoas so we’ll see how we do now. I’ll definitely check out your other build too!
