I love my Fluval 407 canister filter, especially with the Fluval spray bar attached to its outflow. Don't abandon the idea just because it's not popular here
Will keep that in mind, thanks.

Welcome dude! I remember your shoes and what it feels like. Headed into the unknown with nothing but a map and field guide. Its a great trip man! Think about what kind of fish your interested and what kind of corals you enjoy. Patience is the key to this hobby, you wont get anywhere by rushing anything. Have fun and keep learning and you will go far. Anything in particular you are looking for long term? (Example: Clownfish hosting with anemone)
Thank you! I would love to have an anemone and clownfish duo someday. Other than that I'd just like some great corals and fish that make a fun tank to watch! I really like hammers so I definitely want to include those in my plans.

You cant go wrong with a wrasse for constant movement in the tank, altho some can be meannn. Hawkfish are a very fun tank member as well. LPS and softies are great for eye candy and reef movement. Definitely wait on your anemone tho as the tank needs to be very mature for the best chance of keeping a nem long term.

Hey a big Welcome!!! So this might be a bit bold so take it with a grain of “salt” lol. If I read it right, you have a $1500 budget. Take your new 40 gallon breeder and easily turn it into a sump. Fiji Cube make an awesome 40g breeder sump kit for $125 ish. High quality! I built one for my 120, its now on my 180. Love it! Then find a larger used tank/stand/skimmer/lights for $500-$800. This would solve your fish and coral concerns. Here in Arizona we’re lucky to have a LFS that has a large room of used tanks and equipment. Just throwing out an option. Good luck Bud!
