Some of you know I've set a goal to run a 5k in under 25 minutes before I turn 50 next summer. Today was supposed to be my first shot at that goal. Unfortunately, not enough people registered so they canceled the professional timing and used an alternate course that wouldn't block off the roads. This course was just under 3 miles, instead of the 3.1 is was supposed to be. Sad, because I had a much better run than I would have thought possible.
2.96 miles in 21:54. I didn't stop my watch until past the finish line.

Been a good day, but I need a nap. A local runner was hosting an “Endless 5k” event. Basically, you run a 5k every hour on the hour for 10 straight hours.
I’m a quitter. I stopped at 4. It was more than enough.

Yesterday after work I checked on the aquarium and my alk was almost 1dkh high. Sure enough, one of my gyres had tripped off line and needed cleaning. Got that taken care of and alk is slowly working it's way down. Still blows my mind just how critical flow is to coral growth.

Otherwise, the tank is doing well. I need to get in there and cut back a bunch of coral again but I did get some pieces that had broken free glued back down.

Things are going ok for me. Some good days, some bad days, but I guess that is expected.

I've have a 4.5 mile run at a local brewery tonight but I'll see if I can get the tank cleaned up tomorrow and get some pictures. At the very least I should be able to get some top down shots to show just how crowded things are and why some needs to come out.

Today was race day. Finally a chance to mark off the 25 minute 5k goal.
It was a relatively small charity event but extremely well organized and run. At 7:30 was a 5k and the 10k started at 8:30. A bunch of us did both.
I finished last in my age group in both races, but that is just fine. I also finished first in both since I was the only runner in my age group!
I crushed my 5k goal and finished 10th out of 75. I was planning a slow 10k just to get some miles in, but I let a 19 year old coerce me into running faster than planned. All in all a good day.

Time for a non-reefing update. Now that I have met my 5k goal I have decided to get the pain in my knee looked at. I could probably do a 1/2 marathon on it, but there is no way I can get the miles in to train for a marathon which is my ultimate goal. So... time to get it fixed.
I should be getting an MRI soon and then go see an orthopedic surgeon. My doctor thinks surgery is almost certainly going to be required but it should be fairly minor with a quick recovery. Just a small speed bump on the road of life.
