I won a $70 gift code during the sale which put the price in my budget lol. It was pretty good for 2 heads and I’ve been wanting a gold as my centerpiece!

Haven’t updated in a while! Got a new cleaner shrimp. Also lots of bubble algae snuck in so got some emerald crabs and have been removing what I can manually. Corals are doing great though. Sps all growing and colored, torches are all splitting. Clam just keeps getting bigger…and clowns are fat and happy. Contemplating a 3rd fish but honestly the 2 clowns are doing so well would hate to bring some sort of disease in so probably won’t. Have a toxic green hammer coming Wednesday to go next to my splatter hammer!

Garf bonsai acropora.

This tanks went through a pretty rough crash a while ago due to bubble algae and a lack of time. However, I basically restarted it Monday. Somehow my deresa clam survived everything as well as my clowns, urchin, snails and serpent star.

Finally got around to fixing this tank after it had been overrun by bubble algae! Did a rip clean and it’s been doing great the past few weeks. Bubble algaepocalypse only survivors were my 2 clowns, serpent star, urchin, snails and my deresa clam.

I’ve since now added a blackcap basslet, cleaner shrimp, torch, 2 hammers, purple bonsai acro, green birdsnest, some green zoas, purple stylo, forest fire digi, ora toadstool and Duncan! Everything is doing wonderfully and I’ve made the tank bare bottom which I actually really like!

Jealous of your SPS, you got some beautiful coloration in there! I also have a fusion 20 that I’m trying to sell off but will likely end up putting together.. If you get a chance can you quickly run through the process of your rip clean? I’m considering doing one but I would rather not go BB. Many claim sand is purely aesthetic in a reef tank and eventually becomes an eyesore. I often vacuum up a lot of muck when I’m doing a water change…

Yeah, this tank has gone through a bunch of changes since the last update but is doing very well right now.

The tank was covered in bubble algae, aiptasia, and cyano and was pretty much a nightmare. I took all the livestock out and put in a bucket with tank water and air stone. I then took all the rocks out amd scrubbed them all meticulously with a toothbrush. After I thoroughly cleaned each rock, I covered it with a wet(saltwater) paper towel to keep as much bacteria and such alive as I could. I took the pump/mp10 out and soaked them in vinegar for a few hours. I then took the tank outside and cleaned it out with a hose and clean sponge to clean off all the algae on the glass. I also siphoned out as much of the sand as I could and discarded it before taking it outside. I removed the rest of the sand outside in my yard with the hose. I made up 20 gallons of saltwater the night before as well. I then scrubbed the rocks off again using a toothbrush and used a bucket of saltwater I made up to rinse them with afterwards. I then put all the rocks back in and filled it back up with the fresh saltwater and let it get back to temp before I added the livestock back in. Everyone made it through the process and I even found a rock flower nem I thought disappeared lol. I decided bare bottom as I've never had a bb tank and wanted to try it. I like it ok and coraline has taken over a lot of the floor of the tank but any tanks in the future will have sand. Hope this is informative! I'll post some pics up when I get home of how it looks now.

Thanks for the informative thread. Sorry for the difficulties and hope the recovery goes well! Just curious, I'm starting a (currently cycling) tank in MD as well, any recommendations on where to get corals?

Hey tanks doing really well currently! I live on the eastern shore so I’m super limited. I’ll get some stuff from pacific east over here but I mostly order online. If you’re central or western md there’s some good shops near Baltimore (CTE aquatics)and fantastic aquariums in Frederick I believe.
