This is where my confusion comes in. I have a XL525. The #42222 is described as 20-25mm and the #42221 is 16mm. But I believe both threaded ends are the same size and can connect to any Redsea union. Does the millimeter measurement describe the barbed end or output?
In the post above mstgkillr referenced this method Randy C used and this appears to be the #42221 part with the barb unscrewed and removed. I'm little hesitant with cement bonding the Spears 32mm x 1" to the outer surface of the Redsea adapter but I'm still trying to figure out if the #42221 threaded coupler will work on the XL525.

I'm sure many of you experienced reefers are already aware of these measurements but many of us are still new and I'm just trying to clear up some of the confusion, many on my end.
These photos are of the XL525 V3 emergency overflow pipe that measures 32mm OD and if you look closely you can see Redsea bonded a 90 elbow to the outside of the fitting.

This is the return pipe, measuring 25mm OD but utilizes the same threaded union fitting as the ID of the fitting is 25mm.

Don't know about the V3 plumbing sizes however the 42222 and 42221 part wil fit at least all the way up to the 750xxl reefer.
Difference is the 42221 can be seperated and the threaded part is only for 16mm hose.

You can cement 32mm over the 42221 piece but have to get the right glue.

For example check this thread:

As @BigMo noted, I sold my entire sump/plumbing/reactor setup, skimmer etc. I am officially done having a reef tank until further notice. I was running the Triton Method for about six months with mega success... like the best success I had ever had. Until I wasn't having success lol. Tank took a dive again and I couldn't recover it.

Can you elaborate a bit on why you suspect the triton method failed for you? Considering a triton build but have some hesitation. Sorry to have you revisit the pain and frustration =)

Eric thanks

V3 sump utilizes the same plumbing sizes as the previous 525. All the fittings are the same size. I just received 3 of the #42221 fittings, all work well to adapt the metric to standard. I'm going with the Randy C's method as I don't have to cut the RS downpipes. Plus the connection, black downpipe into the grey adapter follows a better flow with the black pipe fitting into the grey adapter. This should help with reduced disturbance/turbulance in the water flow as minimal as it may be. I checked with a friend who is a chemist and works testing industrial chemicals. Although RS is saying their material is "unknown", my friend stated the commercial PVC cement's are more than adequate in bonding mixed materials especially for the low pressure and non-caustic liquids.

RedSea just needs to utilize slip bulkheads so the end user can choose between metric and standard. The use of metric does not yield any better fitment. Overseas manufacturing does not hold to the same tolerances or quality as US/North American products. More often the variances range widely. I can personally attest to this as I have worked with several manufactures in the electronics field from dozens of countries, some are excellent but most are horrible.

Hi @Broadfield . Amazing tank! With you removing the vinyl off the back, how are you doing cable management of the Wavemakers? I tried to go through the pages in this thread but I cannot seem to find anything unless I missed it? Would be super helpful. Thanks

On page 9 towards the bottom he talks about adding black L channel on the corners.

Hey Broadfield just wondering how were you able to hide your powerhead wires behind the tank? I also have a no background on my tank but it seems like trying to route the wires behind the tank without it being seen is impossible

Not sure. I couldn't find it myself but I did it myself. You don't need much instruction. Just get a long metal ruler from the hardware store (and basic plastic grips if you want to be able to pin the ruler in place) and a pencil. Line it up with the start of the overflow box on the top and draw a 'straight' line down. The only trick here is to use something like a level to ensure you do it straight. I had someone help check its level. Then all you do is run a razor blade or utility knife down this line or just down the ruler. Once you ran the razor through, just start peeling the vinyl off. Start from the overflow side and do so carefully to ensure you don't pull off the part covering the overflow.

You want to leave the vinyl covering the back of the overflow to prevent light from your light fixture seeping in there when reflected off the wall behind the tank. This will prevent algae from growing in your overflow.

Last bit of advice. This adds another 2 surfaced for you to scrape clean and are much harder to clean due to their location. Just be aware of this when you do this.

Some updated shots of the sump area, tank and a few fish. It's been so long since I have busted out the Canon 80D, I about forgot how to take good fish tank shots... I'm definitely a little rusty.
