Fluconazole is working in a lot more than 50% of the time. the poll has a currently trying the medication that makes it off. there are very few people that reported it did not work ksanfranfan
I've been a big proponent of this treatment from the beginning. Although I'm against using chemicals and medications in my tanks, I had to treat bryopsis or loose corals. As a matter of fact I had already lost corals so I took a chance with this treatment and haven't looked back.
My 50 percent statement is a reflection of the data collected. I would bet it's higher than 50 percent as well. Problem is that we don't know what the actual success rate is so it's all speculation as far as the cure rate is concerned.
We also have to consider that some people have been trying to treat solely for GHA, and other algae, and some are treating but not sure if they have bryopsis or another form of algae. Considering the everything and the polling can be skewed. There are 2 threads running concurrently. We also have to look at that as well. Some have posted in both threads and haven't reported all of their info in both.
I'm not saying that this treatment is only has a 50 percent success rate. My statement was in response to a 98 percent statement that was repeated more than once and then skewed into a mathematical equation of number of corals that survived vs ones that died. That doesn't equate to an overall success rate for this medication based on a whole.
We can measure success in a number of ways. Is loosing 1 coral deemed not successful if it kills bryopsis or is loosing a few corals, a fish, or inverts while killing bryopsis a success.
The intention of the thread is killing bryopsis. At this point we know that it does that in the majority of tanks. What was being discussed is what else might have or might not have been killed due to this medication.
With all of that said I believe that we can agree that this treatment has a higher success rate than 50 percent. Everything else, including the data from the polls inhibits us from knowing just how high that number is.

Of course now I need to figure out how to keep those palys that were living underneath it all under control...

Took a gamble on this working for brown hair algae.

Pretreatment

After two 21 day treatments:

Skimmer cup, carbon, GFO removed.

HUGE 'THANK YOU' to who ever thought of this treatment.

I searched through a few pages, but couldn't find any info...where do I buy Fluconazole? I found some online sites, but it needs a doctor/vet's prescription. TIA!

Also worth mentioning, my returns are nearly algae free - they looked like caterpillars shooting water before.

So its day 15, it looks as if I have some hold outs.. I am purchasing another round of dosing and will proceed once it arrives which should be by the weekend if needed. I only say this because everything turned to grey and basically dissolved away. But yesterday I noticed it was dug in to the pukani rock which has deep pores and some greenage has shown up again. Other than that my tank is bangin' dog!

Possibly slightly off topic but i have it back a 4th time but it's just too coincidental that a salt change has been the only factor in it appearing. Long story short( fat fingers and using my phone here) my tank was all fine and dandy until a certain brand was reccomended and probs started then. Have ran out of my old salt few weeks back and rather than waste the new one i am using it up, and hey presto we have bryopsis. The other 2 occasions it appeared coincided with using the new salt too. Not saying it is but it is in my own experience the only change, maybe theres something in the salt that brings back dormant bryopsis, its a wild guess yes but it is for me just too much of a coincidence.

I too changed my salt 2 months ago. I switch to IO instead of using RC. What was your brand?

wow ... it has taken me days to read this thread:) Have had an algae issue for 5 months but I would like to try the fluconazole before I give up on this tank (and to save my aching, arthritic thumb joints from the tweezers) but the algae I have doesn't quite look like bryopsis and I am pretty sure it is not hair algae. Has anyone had a similar algae and did they have a positive result? Thanks.

Kent originally then switched to TM pro reef, shall be switching back to Kent, new bucket ordered today. Absolutely no issues with Kent whatsoever.

Dosed this two days ago, and saw my two stomatella snails dead and getting picked at by my wrasse and cleaner shrimps :( Bryopsis is still prevalent but still too early to say it's a failure.

All my other inverts are doing fine, just my stomatellas.. :(

My Fluconozole treatment was very successful. All the bryopsis died and none of my corals including blastos were harmed. I kept the skimmer off for the first 48 hrs only. I'm a happy reefer. No I still have a little cyano ☹️

My treatment was also a success although I'm having some stringy brown algea. Goes away at night and blows of easy. Similar to diatoms but not the same. Any idea what it could be?

Waiting for my pills to come in the mail. I am so ready to get rid of My GHA and Bryopsis. I have a few questions before I begin.
I have a 20g system so I would dose 2 pills (400mg)?
25% water change before treatment?
General consensus shows run skimmer on but without the cup for 4-5 days?
Leave carbon out until day 12-14?
At 2 weeks to 3 weeks do a 25% waterchange?
Do I keep dosing vibrant? I'm dosing it once a week right now

You are correct for all your points. I'm not familiar with vibrant so idk. I just got rid of bryopsis using Fluconozole and now my tank is pretty again. You are going to be very happy
