Hello all, my name is Jon and I am brand new to r2r! After using a 3.7g nano fresh water tank, and turning it into a nano frag tank, I became very interested in engineering. I found a 10g tank on the side of the road and thought, this may be perfect. I know they sell tanks with areas for a sump and fuge inside, but as addicted as I have become to the hobby, I figured I could build my own for pennies on the dollar. Below is my first attempt...Again, I have never cut acrylic, used silicone, or constructed anything in my life.
Besides the sealant being black (which I didn't know at the time of the purchase) the tank didn't turn out too bad. After a couple days, I put water in and some friendly dye to see how the filtration worked. To my surprise, it worked perfectly! A long story shortened, it is now home to a beautiful Mandarin Dragonet who has been trained to eat frozen food...I would also like to say that the fuge part actually has thousands of copepods and my Mandarin snacks on those throughout the day...A little pytoplankton and the pods will not go away!

Hello Jon, sorry i am late.

I think you have the best origin story, found a tank on the side of the road. That has to be hands down the greats intro into the dIy. The setup looks great and keeping a mandarin in it. Nice
