Hello reefers! We are a young family from Australia and complete noob to fish keeping. We decided when we built our dream house that we wanted to have an aquarium in the house.

Hubby has in his head that this can be totally automated. We engaged a custom builder and quickly learnt that salt water tanks were not for the faint hearted but the more we looked into it, the more interested we became.

Fish tank is 2.4 meters long x 750mm tall x 560mm deep.
Lighting-We have 3 coral care gen 2 lined up for installation.

Please follow this thread and also my instagram @reef2home as we embark on this journey.

Hi

if it’s not too late, and if possible, I would put the filter in a basement or an adjacent closet or small room

it looks like it will be tough to access that filter in time

if you can’t get into filter easily, maintenance becomes a chore, gets neglected then the tank is a burden

if not possible, I’d try to make it as accessible as possible, especially if you want to fully automate

Welcome! I'm Lisa. Glad you joined. This is a great hobby for families!

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread under Forum > Member Aquariums and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID). This particular thread is in Forum Meet and Greet, but you could copy / paste everything you already have here into appropriate area of Forum Member Aquariums and voila - on your way for build thread. Once it is started in the right spot of Forum, then you link it in your account to get your badge.

This might help you find people local to you in Australia:

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:

thanks for the advise. Sorry to be a noob but what filter do you mean? There is an adjacent closet but not a room next to the tank.
