I can get it bagged if you prefer. It's just a little phosphate rich. ;Hilarious

Where can we buy it?
Jeff
Working on that now. The problem with all these good places that sell the perfect size and excellent quality is that most want you to commit to 1 ton (2,000 lbs) which is only about $600. However, If you buy 20 tons...it’s $380 a ton. The question is...why isn’t Julian with TLF or BRS buying from these guys. With the resources they have... they could make a big profit and they already know. I had a local guy here in Houston that would ship tons of dry rock on large pallets directly to his residential home and store it in the garage. We have a major port here in Houston. If he did it, anybody can.

This reminds me of back during the Ron Shimek DSB craze, we were buying pallets of magic oolitic sand for group buys.

Does that include shipping costs? If not, I wonder how much it is to ship 1 ton to Seattle or LA?

Wait, why aren't you buy a ton and repackage them to sell us? It's just like how Ryan started BRS selling two parts. They haven't have their own calcium reactor media yet, so you can be the next!

I'm guessing because it's far more lucrative to sell 2-part. Seems like everyone has worked hard to slowly shove calcium reactors off a cliff the past 20 years.

If I had the time and resources I’d jump on this. Let’s consider the low end of the deal for a second. Excuse my math:

First off this guy has an excellent source. Basically looks like the old reborn or maybe better. You have to commit to 1 ton or 2,000 lbs which is $600. If you get 20 tons or 40,000 lbs it’s $380 a ton. Reborn goes for $35-40 a bag.

Let’s say 2,000 lbs / 220 = about 9 lbs.
220 (9lb bags) x $35 = $7,770 a ton at the high price.

Then you gotta ship it across seas on a tanker to a port which is 10 minutes from me. Then have it picked up and delivered to your destination. Let’s say shipping was $2000. 7,770 - $2,000 = $5,700 profit.

That’s still excluding sorting, bagging, and shipping across US to reefers. Still a lot of profit though if you did it large scale.

Basically if I was Julian Sprung @ TLF, Ryan @ BRS, Saltwater Aquarium, etc...We’d all have endless CaRx media in about 1 month. :)

Probably not that simple, but a friend of mine was doing it right here in Houston in at a 1500sf home. If he did it...anybody could do it especially if you had resources like these companies mentioned above.

I remember everyone clamoring to get their bags of Southdown play sand. The good old days!

This is one example but there's a bunch of them on Ali.

Well on better living is another online source.

I'd wager TLF isn't interested in sourcing from Hong Kong or Mainland China vs buying direct from the source.

There will be uneccessary overhead associated with a source that has poplar trees in the background of their stock photo vs palm trees.

The one Ali use to have that was direct from the Philippines was the lowest price one I saw. Was about 30% less than the one highlighted in this thread with a much lower minimum buy. But I think that one isn't up anymore.

There was a thread a while back where someone in the bay area found a building materials wholesaler that had a several tons of this stuff. His LFS got some from them but they would only deal wholesale.

Retail came out slightly higher than reborn I believe. If that's the case this stuff would still be too expensive to be worth TLF's effort.

I agree it's prob a decent opp for a hobbyist that has a few k and a shed to spare.

I was going to be that guy but I keep buying coral and I have kids so the shed is full hahahaha.
