It’s not like a caulerpa. It doesn’t have rhizomes. Well I can’t say that but the rhizomes are different than caulerpa. it’s like a branching coralline but is kind of spongey and green in appearance. It’s definitely a macro algae.

I also think it's just a dense bit of codium.

Neomeris has a calciferous structure with the green shifting between the top/bottom depending on the light of day. (Similiar to what halimeda does).

My codium grows slightly different so there might be some variation but I also know flow plays a big part in codium structure whether it be dense or thin. Mine dose form holdfasts like yours but more often on sand than on rock. I think gravel was the best medium for it to attach.

Codium. FWIW there’s a few varieties of it, you got one of the prettier ones, IMO. First time I found some on live rock I thought it was a sponge, got corrected by several folks on RC. Yours looks like Codium taylori or Codium vermilara vs @Eatfrenchfries who appears to have Codium intricatum. Growth forms have a lot of variety in them depending on conditions, so sometimes it’s hit and miss identifying them.

+1. Some rarer species like Codium lucasii and Codium bursa even grow in blobs/balls.
