Hi,

I’m running the Triton method on my 160 total volume system. Using Neptune Trident to monitor and dose via DOS for each element. I for whatever reason can’t keep Mg up.

Alk: 8.83
Ca: 416
Mg: 1216

3a and 3b at 15.5 ml
2 at 17.1ml
1 at 38 ml

I just recalibrated the trident with the solution. I don’t have but a few corals in the display and Chaeto growing. Why can’t I keep Mg up?

salt is Red Sea blue bucket so Mg should be at 1250-1300.

what is going on?

Sounds like you need to up the dos some. I know it’s finding the right amount needed to be added as there is no real way to know with out testing and finding that sweet spot and it stabilizes. As you add more coral you will need to monitor it and change the dos amount. Has it been declining or staying the same?

It’s been staying the same. From my understanding the Alk, mg and Ca should be similar. It’s based off Alk consumption to get the right dosing amount without having a trident to dose. So why do I have dos 2.5x as much for mg?

If everything has been staying the same I would dos mag til it reaches what you want it at 1300 then go back to what you are dosing now if everything has been staying the same like you said in your previous post

I don't know if this applies, but you didn't say how often you're doing water changes and if you tested your salt mix for Mg.

I'm currently using TM Classic and it says it will mix up at 1260 (if SG=1.025-1.027) but I mix it to 1.024 and consistently get 1050 ppm. If I don't bump up my Mg in the water change to my target of 1350 I will see a drop.

Why are you mixing to 1.024?
Its not just Mg which will be low, everything will be low.

To mix close to Triton method, you need 1.0265 or 35ppt.
