(*new to REEFING)Looking to Id this guy. Have had him on the very first piece of live rock I got when I started this tank. Didn't figure he'd make it through a cycle but grows very well. Loves the tank. Loves moderate flow. Eats mysis and loves reef roids. Closes up around them and has tentacles on perimeter at feeding time. Mix of greens yellows blues and purples under cheap chinese black box. Would love to know more. No ones ever id's it for me

as others stated, very cool hitchhiker. I really like inspecting live rock. Have a low power USB microscope used to view tiny critters.

I'm totally enjoying it. Trying to find gel filters from the Nikon so we can take some better pics. I love getting new live rock. Even with potential pests, there's always potential life that is cool. It did have aptasia on it when I got it. But a dose of 1 ml of white vinegar and it was gone. I kept looking for its return through all lighting phases and even in the dark and havent see it. But yeah, this thing is awesome to feed. Drew my curiosity out even more than it was when I first set up the tank

Pretty convinced it is the Rose Coral. Just based on watching some videos and delving into the internets knowledge

I treated it as aptasia, shortly after posting the pic. At the time I used a 1 ml shot of vinegar, but now also have 2 peppermint shrimp to patrol the rock. Good spot. I hadn't noticed it till after I posted it

Yup that’s a rose coral. I got one as well and it had awesome coloring but more recently it turned green. I think you get better colors on these in lower light.

I did some searching on the forum John and noticed a post you made on your rose coral. Did you ever figure out what changed the coloring?

I had 2 major changes which could be the reason for the color change.

I had to remove this coral off the rock because it was about to be overrun by sunny D zoas. It was very low in my tank. I put it on my frag rack which is up high but off to the side. So maybe more light.

The other change is I got s but lax and let my nitrates climb up pretty high. I was keeping them around 10-15 but let them get up to 30.

I’ve got my nitrates back down and I am planning on glueing this guy back down low. So hopefully the red coloring will come back.
