Can Hewbie’s new home sit in a below freezing garage?

Hewbie’s new home is officially here! My worry is can the tank stay in the garage for a day or two? It’s really cold and windy here. Will that negatively impact the silicone? The last thing I need is for his home to leak again!

If it's dry, yes, and I live in Upstate New York. I've left tanks in my garage for years, no problem.

BUT be VERY careful if it's wet, or will see any moisture like dew. I had a 75 crack on me last year, I cleaned it out really good, left it out overnight to "dry" lol! It dropped to like 30 that night, and the next morning the back panel was cracked, and I was on my way to the pet store for a new 75.

EDIT: I remember my best friend back when we were kids in the 1980's. He had a tank, and dragged it out in the upstate New York winter to clean it off. He had it in the driveway on a cold morning and hit it with a garden hose, and we both watched as the tank basically exploded as soon as the water hit the glass.

It is 100% dry and still in the packaging! And I swear this isn’t an ad for DuraFlame! :face-with-tears-of-joy:

It's not a problem at all. My fish shed (free standing, unheated) has stored many tanks for years without issue. And being I'm across the river from you, so we're witnessing similarly very cool weather.

I don't know the technically correct answer... but if it were mine, and I was able, I would bring it inside.
I mean, this, because it is brand new, and why risk it? But, I would have zero problems leaving that tank in my garage.

I have a 150 gallon SCA that was delivered on Monday sitting in my garage, and it's well bellow freezing this week. I've had no concerns, but now I kind of want to run out and check on it lol!

Slightly off topic, but I'm going to mention that I too have stored tanks for years in an unheated garage, and never had a problem with silicon get "old" or "drying out", which is something I see mentioned a lot.

Yes and I feel the need to say it was so windy and cold today that my fence blew down! That’s never happened.

Why can't you bring the tank inside? Is it space, muscle power? I have zero problems leaving that tank, dry, in a non heated garage in sub freezing weather. But I've noticed some of your recent posts, I kind of know what this tank means to you and Hewbie (and now me lol!), so why risk it? Is there no one that can help you get it inside your house?

That is correct sadly. But that being said many have said it’s fine so it’s staying there. Again it’s 100% dry and new. I wanted them to bring it in the house but no the two of them couldn’t walk 5 more steps and I don’t have anyone to help me until this weekend possibly tomorrow at the earliest.

You're fine to leave it in the garage, sleep well tonight!

You could always bring out some blankets and a pillow and tuck it in for the night lol after all you've been through I'd probably do it. I doubt it makes any difference but might be nice knowing the thank is sleeping safe and sound.

I just have to say, I mean, maybe it's just me, but there is just something about a brand new tank......

It’s sitting in my very cold garage right now, and I checked, and it’s fine :)

EDIT: Please excuse my mess in the background ;-)

Mine too lol! Actually that’s not my mess that’s my Dad’s mess lol! I think all our garages look like this and if it doesn’t then either the person has a professional organizer or is a perfectionist lol!
