My tank currently has a medium size female lyretail anthias. I want to add a male lyretail anthias to keep her company. Is is OK to do so?

Why pay extra for a male? Buy and add a female and one of them will become male. That’s what I do.

I would not add a male to an established female. The assumption that the female will accept the male is not a given, if she doesn't she will batter the male and that may trigger her transition. I would do as has been suggested add a group of small females and a allow a natural transition.

If you have an established male, can you just add one small female or do you have to do more? In an 80gal reef??
