So 2 days ago I noticed my tangs eye was cloudy

I came home today and see that it now appears to have some
Kind of hole in it

No idea what to do

Looks like mucus. Eye is infected, the hole could be from a fluke enter/exit. Can you catch the fish to move it to a QT? Do you have praziquantel on hand?

I was wondering about flukes also
I only have a 20 gallon qt
Obviously not big enough for a 4 inch tang

:( I dunno what else to do. I could over night the meds maybe But still it’s only a 20 gallon tank or I dose my DT and kill everything else in it

I read somewhere a fresh water dip but also that could kill him

I noticed he has been presenting himself to the cleaner shrimp more so and rubbing a bit on the sand bed

The shrimp don’t seem as interested in cleaning him as the normally do

Pretty sure I’m about to have my first major loss with a $400 fish not to mention my favorite friend :(

Copper doesn’t treat flukes.

This is totally curable.

The symptoms sound exactly like flukes. What do you have in your tank you are worried about with prazi pro? It’s reef safe except for ornamental worms like feather dusters etc.

Ok thanks
Im really worried he is my best buddy
I debated buying a 120 gallon qt tonight from pet if I had to

It’s an achillies Incase you didn’t guess which I know are tuff to keep but he is a super awesome fish and eats like a champ

If I over night the Prazipro from BRS I won’t see it until Thursday most likely

You think he will be ok that long?
I doubt I can find locally

I dint even really care about coral in my DT
Would rather save him but you say it’s reef say
Only other thing I have that will
Probably not be happy is a BTA
Will order meds now

Any other ideas please let me know I so appreciate your help

That is what you want yes.

As long as he is still eating a couple days should be fine.

It’s almost instant relief as soon as you dose. If you run a skimmer pull the cup and let the skimmer run because it will overflow otherwise. Increase surface tension with powerheads heavily agitating top of water level.

Ok
I just over nighted from BRS
He is still eating well but does seem to have some reduced activity
Normally he swims a lot and is very active he seems a little slower today for sure

I hope he can hang
On until the order shows up

I just spent $60 in shipping for a $5 item

I’ve had tangs with the exact same condition. The eye when infected is very sensitive to light, so that is why they seem so sluggish not to mention his vision in that eye is reduced to zero right now.

I have never lost a fish that has the condition you are dealing with. So hopefully that will help put you at ease for the time being.

Well, I got the prazipro in the tank yesterday.
Got some strange reactions from the fish

I shut off the skimmer. Hoping his symptoms subside.
He was hiding in the rocks this morning and didn’t come out very much which is unusual for him.

He ate well last night but didn’t seem interested in his morning snack of nori.

Probably need to give it time. Also considering getting him some food that has antibiotics Incase his eye is infected

Any ideas on that?
Thanks

Well he has been in the tank for 3 days with the prazipro
Also feeding him DR G’s bacterial food with meds in it

He still looks the same and acting the same
I don’t know if he just needs more time or what?
No other fish are exhibiting his behavior
And the cleaner shrimp will clean all other fish but him :(

Dunno what’s going on

Looking for more insight on this
I have given the tank the max dose every 3 days
His eye started to get better but right around the time where I can dose again his eye gets cloudy again

meanwhile I have killed every coral in the tank with this stuff and my phosphates are sky high because my slimmer isn’t running with the prazipro in the tank.
I dunno what else to do but it only seems to improve and refuses to clear up 100%
He has been in prazipro 10 days now with 3 max doses

Either post injury or infection. if you have the option to turn off the white lights and leave actinic blues on, or just the lights off, that'd be best as you want to lower stress for the fish and allow it to heal, if it needs to. It's possible it could have hit the eye on something sharp.
Assure ammonia levels are low. generally an epsom salt bath will cure this also but will take a few days

I dunno what to do honestly
I don’t think he hit his eye because it seems to get better with prazi pro then as the prazi pro where’s off, it gets worse again

I am setting up a QT for him today.
I dunno what else to do
