Good question. I'm pretty sure it can as I believe it's designed for more than just measuring ATO levels.

Yes, but the top can NOT be fully submerged. It is water resistant not water proof

As @rtparty replied yes, it can. They come in various sizes so make sure you pick up the right one. I believe they are:

4 inch
14 inch
23 inch
35 inch

I use one in both ATO and Mixing container and there has not been any signs of mildew, salt creep, or other damage.
