Something contaminated the actual air supply going into the air pump?
Perhaps some funky fungal spores which ended up in the scrubber being heated by the led and fed by nutrients from the algae quickly growing and clogging the scrubber holes and making a perfect growing environment for creating a Thing/Alien hybrid?

Nice idea of contaminants. But I think it's just regular air going in. It has more to do with how it was operated.

Nutrients have not bottomed. And everything in the scrubber is actually growing there; it was not pulled in or swam in.

No heater; is at tank temp.

The air idea is good, but needs more details.

No there was no stuff added; it's all growing.

The lighting was 18 hours I think, and was not changed. And I don't think there is much cyano; the top is about 1/2" thick slime, and the bottom is 2" thick gha.
