Can you help me make sense of my specific gravity and ppt?

My Hanna reader ways 31.5 ppt and my refractometer says 35. annoying
the Hanna electrothingy has a lot battery indicator, could that be the problem?

is that a safe range for me to just move forward with or do I need to fix it ASAP? What’s considered a safe range?

So what you want to do is a calibration before you test with it. I beleive they both calibrate different with different fluids

A salinity of 31.5 ppt corresponds to a specific gravity of 1.0237
A salinity of 35 ppt corresponds to a specific gravity of 1.0264

I do not know which (if either) of your devices is correct.

Both values are probably OK, but I'd target 35 ppt.

You can test both of your devices in standard solutions made for that purpose:
