can you jump start the cycle with some bio media from a cannister filter?

My father is staring up a 46g bowfront aquarium and wants to jump start his cycle with something from my tank. I have a 125g that has been up for about 2 months. My cycle finished about 3 weeks ago and I now have a few corals and 2 fish. I started off with a cannister filter until I build my sump and he is doing the same thing. Would it be OK to give him a few pieces of my bio media to put in his cannister to introduce the bacteria to his tank?

Household ammonia would do the same thing as well.

Yes you can do that. It will probably help at least a little.

Household ammonia would do the same thing as well.
Ammonia does not provide bacteria for a jump start, it only provides something for bacteria to eat.
