This is about 2 weeks worth of chaeto growth. I throw this much away every 2 weeks which is about half of what I have in my 30 gallon sump. It’s seams to start to die if i wait any longer. My question is... how much should I harvest? And how much should I keep? I am always scared I’m gonna take out too much and mess my pattern up.

other question: I have the other half of my sump with dragons Breath. Is that too much db? Would I be better off leaving a very small amount of db and have more chaeto or more dB.

If it's growing that well, I'd stick with what you are doing.

Harvesting half of a fast growing mass of chaeto tends to work well. Since it is just growth, the algae should be genetically identical throughout. As long as it is healthy, one part is as good as another.

Mind if I ask what you're using as chaeto lighting?

After you harvest weigh the amount your putting back in so you can keep it consistent for next time.
