Can anyone help me find out why my chaeto will not grow. I have grew it well before using a Fluval Marine and Reef 2.0. After 6 months no growth I bought an 18W Waterproof LuxBird grow light off Amazon. Still no growth. I grow all other algae’s just fine. I’ve even put in a hamster ball and got it floating at the top of the fuge water level as close to the light as possible. I have also tried dosing iron for 3 week with no change. For the past 3 weeks I have continued dosing iron and also dosed Brightwell Chaetogro with no growth.

I’ve sometimes had to mess with the light duration on mine to find a happy place. Last time I got a new light I had to cut my light time by a couple hours a night...which I thought was weird, I mean more is better right? Apparently not.

I have this 4 inches from my cheato for 2years now.

Awesome growth doubles every 6 weeks, 4 pm to 10 am. Feel sorry for the pods, they must be blind.

I think hamster ball is only blocking light: not helping. Are you saying that this chaeto was previously growing using a Fluval Marine and Reef 2.0, or that was different chaeto (or different tank)?
It was different chaeto different tank. 2 yrs ago when we bought our home my tank crashed during move so I had to start over. It’s been 2 yrs since I started over and I’ve been unable to get chaeto to grow ever since. No3 is 10. Po4 has read 0 for months but have hair algae so I no it’s false.

I just got some chaeto in a different setup and noticed significant new growth in under 5 days. I am running 9 hours of 100% light with 1 hour of less light before and after the 9 hours so as not to shock my fish with immediate 100% light (so approximately 11 hours of continuous light with 13 hours of continuous dark.)

I added this red Gracilaria also thinking it may help outcompete the hair algae and everything else that seems to be thriving. And it’s starting to get covered in hatir algae also.
