Added the cheato about 4 months ago. Used to be a much lighter green and buoyant. It’s since turned a much darker green and seems heavier. Is this normal? Is this a sign that it’s time to prune? It has grown since I first put it in, but it’s definitely got more room to grow into.

Dark green would indicate heavy metals or high iron content in your water. Not floating isn’t a issue. Rotate it manually once a week.

How old is the tank and if you have corals, how are they doing?

RO/DI water?

I rotate it every other day or so. Tank is almost 8 months in. Several frags.....SPS, LPS and a Zoa.
Yes, RO/DI.

5g w/5g sump (maybe 2.5 g in sump)
Kh-9.5
Cal-420
Mag-1400
Phosphate-0
Nitrate- normally 5 (climbed to 10+ due to feeding heavier this past week)

Are you dosing anything?

Are you dosing anything?

Yes, just started dosing a couple week ago as I’ve been adding more SPS corals.
1 ml. RedSea Foundation B daily to keep alk at 9.5. Calcium is staying steady so far ar 420. I have Reef Fusion 1 & 2 but haven’t needed to dose the calcium, and I’m using the RedSea for alk for now....it came with the RedSea test kit I purchased last week. Previously, I was using API Kh test kit.

I’m sure the weekly 1g water changes are what’s keeping the Calcium up. I know as the corals start growing I’ll probably be dosing calcium eventually.

It’s a good thing that your not dosing both parts equal at this point. Testing is your friend and your doing it right!
