It works for any algae. But most have reef tanks and it really can't be used much with corals. They get too annoyed. Vibrant also works well. Really any "hammer" method to combat organics will improve the algae. You can also combine any of these methods with turning off the lights and blacking out the tank for a few days to hasten the demise of the algae.
