You know what is funny? If I take the same view from that spot through a magnifying glass, he's OK with that. But, push my iPhone up against the glass and he attacks! He hates phones!!!!
You're correct. I'd need to purchase a macro lens too. I have a hard time pulling the trigger on spending lately, since my spending needs exceed my ability to pay for themIt looks like you may have to invest in an iPhone telephoto lens in order to be more discrete! ;Snaphappy
Well, I'm going to spam y'all with another video. I filmed this the other night to try and capture all of the life in my tank. I guess that I did, but after watching it on YT, it turned out better than I thought at first. I panned the fish first, then the invertebrates (barnacle, anemones, jellyfish polyps), then back to the fish. I hope y'all like it.
That's a great idea! Thanks!@Chasmodes, you might look into culturing white worms via PaulB's thread somewhere on here.
Just a quick update on the oyster reef tank. All of the benthic fish perished due to an outbreak of velvet that I didn't catch in time. I moved the fish into QT but it was too late. So, the only things alive are the inverts (oyster, mussels, barnacles, anemones, crabs, and grass shrimp). I have since collected some rainwater killifish and one sheepshead minnow that are in my QT tank, just to keep it cycled, if anything. I'm treating them with copper just in case. I may or may not add these fish to the 100g oyster reef tank later on.
It's getting colder outside, so my fishing trips shouldn't be as regular, which will free up time for me to rebuild my oyster reef in the 100g tank. I have a lot of work to do, but I'm determined to have it up, running, and cycled by the spring fish collecting season.
So, what have I been up to? I finished my FW stream tank. If you've been following this thread, I think that I posted a while back about the progress of this build. Well, I've finished it. It's up and running, and I've collected fish for it. You may remember that I created a faux rock wall 3D aquarium background out of styrofoam, spray foam, Drylok, and an epoxy clear coat. I also created faux roots out of PVC pipe, rope, wire, aquarium tubing, plaster wrap, grout, Drylok and an epoxy clear coat. I'm really excited how it turned out.
I wound up collecting more fish from a local stream about 40 minutes from my house for my FW stream tank this past weekend. This small stream has been one of my favorite smallmouth bass fishing spots over the years. It has a wide diversity of fish species, as much as any stream in the Western part of Maryland.
There are a couple species that I still want, but, for the most part, it's fully stocked now. I also found a beautiful red rock that I just had to put into the tank. I'm trying to find at least one rock to add to the tank from each fish collecting site. This tank is a Potomac River biotope tank, minus major predators.
The species below are currently in this tank:
Darters:
Rainbow Darter (Etheostoma caeruleum)
Fantail Darter (Etheostoma flabellare)
Greenside Darter (Etheostoma blennioides)
Minnows, Shiners and Dace:
Eastern Blacknosed Dace (Rhinichthys atratulus)
Spottail Shiner (Notropis hudsonius))
Silverjaw Minnow (Notropis buccatus)
Longnose Dace (Rhinichthys cataractae)
River Chub (Nocomis micropogon)
Here's a short video of the tank and the new critters:
