So I think this is the right spot to post my progress for my build. Still figuring out this site, sorry. So I’ll drop some pictures as I go along. One question I had was if I’m doing fish only for about the first 6-8 months and then corals later should I be testing my water with the saltwater test kit or reef test kit? Oh and do I just upload the newer pictures as a reply or just update my main post? When I get off work I’ll post all the equipment I have and pictures of the refugium.

update: April 8th adding my copepods and clean sea lettuce to refugium

Hey there! Nice start to the tank! Be sure to get a build thread going that will be a great place to be able to dump photos and drop updates of whats going on with the tank!

Welcome to R2R!

As for some of your questions if you are doing just a FOWLR (fish only with live rock) you can get away with a saltwater test kit, but once corals are added you will want to have a reef test kit to make sure your parameters are right! Hope you enjoy R2R and get the answers you need! You can see to the left of my answer is my build thread can check that out for some inspiration!

I’m on iOS Safari, how do I view your build?
I attached a photo, but underneath my username you can see the different badges, one is the build thread contributor. You will see other users will have them too and thats a link to check out their build thread!

Huge sorry guys. In between cycling and stocking my first salt water tank I got a free 75 gallon freshwater tank. So I forgot to post updates on my saltwater. That’s the tank I got sidetracked with. But yes, keeping up with weekly water changes. Actually going to be switching to Red Sea coral pro salt 10% at a time. I’ve bought salifert test kits. The mandarin is my favorite next to watching the copepods with a flashlight at night. Again, huge sorry, but trying to set up a third tank and trying to convince the girlfriend that a fourth tank is necessary is a huge task. I love a challenge though.

Video wasn’t working but I’ve got 4 chromis, 2 red fire fish, 1 purple fire fish (girlfriends gift, she thought I wanted it but I wanted the red fire fish), 1 purple tang, 1 fox face, 1 sand sifting star, 1 mandarin, a few banded trochus snails and a few conch. In my sump I have a ton of chaeto, pods of all sizes and still multiplying.

Happy to say with all your guy’s help my tank is really an amazing tank. I’m so glad I found this site. I introduced a BTA, some zoas, a star clove polyp and some maroon clowns.
