Looking to see if anyone has an identification of these white lesions on one of my new fiji chromis. After some searching, I'm strongly crossing my fingers that it doesn't turn into red spots and turn out to be uronema.

Bought 4 fiji chromis on Oct 1st to add to my current 1 chromis. Appetite of all of them is great. Voracious little eaters.

Edit: this white lesions appeared within a few days after adding to the tank. Possibly has been there for the past 3 to 4 days like this. There is no itching or other symptoms other than the presence of the lesion.

I started with frozen mysis with garlic + API GC + focus mixture tonight. Will feed daily with this to the tank for the next 10 days and see how it goes.

That isn't a typical location for a Uronema lesion, the color isn't right and Fiji chromis are much better for not seeing Uronema than the typical poor quality ones from Indo or the Philippines. It may be a bacterial infection from a "knock" that occurred during transport. As long as it still is feeding well, I wouldn't pull it for treatment just yet. If you do decide to intervene, I would suggest a broad spectrum, gram negative antibiotic in a treatment tank - Neoplex, Furan-2 or something like that.

That's good to hear, Jay. I fed shrimp soaked in GC + focus + garlic tonight, everybody ate it. I can keep trying this if you think this is reasonable enough for what may be going on. Metronidazole is probably reasonable for gram negative anaerobes.

It is doubtful that the bacteria is an anaerobe though - since it is external. Focus contains an antibiotic, but I think the dose is pretty low.

Here's an update a week later. White lesions regressed over time but left hyperpigmented scales, also his eye on that side appears dark and dilated.

Became less active. Hung out in the back of the tank away from his friends. Today first time I've seen him come out to the front again. Watched him eat at least 2 or 3 pieces of mysis.

So far it hasn't looked to have spread to the others.

Well, not a miracle recovery, but going in the right direction!
