I had an orange stripe prawn goby, and after his shrimp buddy passed on, I ordered him a new buddy. The new shrimp was so tiny, but I of course thought they'd just pair up the same as the buddy before. So, I drop in his new shrimp and within seconds they found each other... GULP!

120 gal, but previous has 8 clowns in a 40 gal. Two didn’t make it before I can break up the craziness. I was back to 8, but Dr Evil was still at it. It was a middle of the pack punk. I’m now at 7 with peace and harmony in a 120 gal tank. I put Dr Evil in 120 to. But he literally started punking one of my big females to the point he was biting a mouth full of tail and dragged her around like his personal ***** or something :dizzy-face:

I then moved him back to my brothers 50…. And the tank is in peace and harmony. He is next level. I’m getting him a way bigger female and see what happens. He was good with female number 1 (black ocy) but the fancy for some reason he decided he was going to have at it! He is a basic Ocy with a black ocy mix.

Once they have completed their sex change operation they remain female and will fight with other females until they die. A tiny mean female can outcompete larger females in the game of survival. Size is important but tenacious individuals can sometimes viciously overpower larger females.

I voted "other". I'm not aware of any predation, however, I used to have a tiny Randall's Pistol Shrimp that went missing 5 seconds after I put it in the tank. I only ever saw him again for a minute or two many months later, and has not been seen since. I'm on the fence as to whether or not my Flame Hawkfish had a tasty little snack, it is dead, or just doesn't like to be seen.
Twice now I have lost my randalls shrimp for 2-12 months. Both times I found him in the rear AIO chamber and moved him back to the display. The first time he was gone for nearly a year and when I found him he was at least triple the size. Personally, I would bet he is still in there.

In our perfect little happy world, no tank inhabitant could ever commit such a crime. But in the real world, it happens. It's life (no matter how disturbing and/or irritating)!

Has one of your tank inhabitants ever became prey to another?

Sadly my Royal gramma got killed by my Clowns didnt had a quarentine tank at that time or a breedingbox plus i saw that he had his fins ripped off in the morning right before i needed to go to Work when i came Home i just saw his remains and happy hermit crabs since then i am scared to add another fish like a black cap , gramma, or firefish to my Clowns they thankfully let my Sand sifting goby in peace :|happened 3 months after putting them all together i didnt expect that since i saw my gramma always swimming with both clowns and after 3 months they had enough of him

My wife went to Michael's yesterday and Petco was right next door so I took a look. One tank had a puffer and some green Chromis. Well, it used to have Chromis anyway. I looked it and saw the puffer grab and eat the remaining Chromis...

My yellow tang harpooned my copperband to death with his tail spike! 20+ years ago i had a variety of fish in my 110 that had been together for at least a year or 2. One day while watching the tank from the couch my niger trigger darts up to the top of the tank and bites the middle out of my favorite damsel.

The little one was fine with the other female. The two big females don’t even fight with each other at all. :face-with-raised-eyebrow:

But now have peace in the tank once he/she was removed.

I had a 125 gallon predator fish only display. It had a 2 and a half foot snowflake eel, a 2" lionfish and a 4" red snapper and 3" grouper. I added clown tang that was about 3" and it was gone the next day. I am guessing it was the eel.

I also bought a pistol shrimp for my 56 gallon display. My smaller fish were disappearing without a trace so I moved the pistol shrimp to the sump. I haven't lost a small fish since!
