Bought a Red Sea Max Nano used. And want to clean it before I start to cycle. Can I use the vinegar method, for built in filtration like the bubble sponge after the protein skimmer.

what’s the best way to clean the protein skimmer. Tank looks pretty clean with only some salt creep on the plastic dividing the display from the filtration area.

Vinegar is fine or citric acid (powder form sold). Use the white or cleaning vinegar (5% and 6% acetic acid) and not the industrial 20% and up.

Clean the skimmer best you can withvinegar solution, then run in diluted vinegar solution for an hour (or more). Rinse in clean water.

Vinegar solution. Ran that for a day through everything. Then siphoned out, ran clean water. Put all the small stuff in 5 gallon bucket with vinegar solution. And scrubbed what I could. Rinsed. Then finally set the tank up

This might get more views if you start a new thread. For me the pink is kinda hard to make out. The only thing pink looking to me is on the sand? Which to me just looks like clean patches of sand.

Maybe @vetteguy53081 can help a bit more.

Looks like tank can use a good siphoning or even rip clean. Add some cleaning crew for algae such as Turbo snails, astrea-nassarius-cerith and nerite snails and about 9 carribean blue leg hermits.
BEFORE adding snails, try a couple of doses of Liquid vibrant which may do wonders. You cal also add 1.5ml of hydrogen peroxide per 10 gals at night safely
