Good afternoon to all lovers of aquarium hobby.

My passion for aquariums has been around for a few years. I went through the world of reefs about 5 years ago and I loved the experience. However, as I was still inexperienced in this type of biotype, I ended up switching to aquascaping, due to an algae outbreak that I couldn't control. The “little animal” was always here.

How I started a change in the background of my living room, from sofas, tables, rugs, etc…. I thought why not a marine aquarium? but this time with a head, torso and limbs. So, here I am dealing with my biggest reef project in every sense €€€€€ , if I do understand. And as I still consider myself inexperienced, despite having been reading for about a year to remove all my doubts, I will really need your help.

My main objective with this project, called “CleanReef”, is to keep it as long as possible, with the healthiest fish and coral species as possible, coming into perfect harmony with my living room, so that I can enjoy this little piece of sea in my own room.

What do I have in mind? I prefer to spend a little more at the beginning, with better material, to have a system that supports me a greater organic load and is more stable in the long term. I needed your help and opinions / what would change, about the equipment I'm thinking of buying, if you think they are good options and if the project has legs to walk ensuring longevity with what I have in mind. Having said this, I present you my “CleanReef”.

CleanReef

Aquarium – 100x50x50 (66 gallons), I was leaning towards 90x50x50, however the more stability it has, and I think this size is the best option.

Sump with dry column – 70x40x45 (33 gallons)
I'm thinking about putting a refuge in the sump right away, so I can put algae or make it as a refuge.

Furniture - Structure in galvanized and lined with luxbond
I will have the aquarium, sump and furniture made at a specialist marine aquarium store.

Skimmer – I'm torn between the Bubble Magus G5 or A5 or G8, what would you advise?

Return Pump – Jebao, I don't have the specs yet.

Illumination – This is where I have the most doubts, I don't even know what to choose. Since I want to have moles, LPS and some SPS, I wanted to have a light that gives me some guarantees.

Controllers and Measurement – What do they advise? I wanted something that measured the PH, Temp., Salinity

Heater – I haven't thought about it yet, but maybe 2x 200W connected to a controller.

Cooling – Rail with 5 Fans, about 60cm connected to the controller.

Replacement - Under study, what do you advise?

Rock – I already have 19 lbs of rock, which used to be alive, but in 5 years it should be pretty dead. I'm thinking about buying about 33 lbs to 44 lbs of dead rock (south sea base rock), do you think it's enough?

Sand – I don't know the amount needed, opinions on which sand to put.

Water – I will use natural water from the Peniche/Berlenga area.

As I study all this, await your feedback.

hugs for everyone

Welcome

Sounds like you are on a good path. If you haven't yet searched and found this posting, it contains additional information that may fill in some early gaps in above. Having patience and BBA - Bounce Back Ability is key in this hobby. "Natural" water concerns as pollution is everywhere and may be invisible. Rock and sand aquascape also depends upon what is pleasing to your eyes; only you can determine but having pound rock per gallon is plenty. You'll want additional test kits before adding corals, so you know also your calcium, mag, alk, phosphates, nitrates... in addition to pH, temp & salinity
