Initially thought it might have been a mantis, but nothing has died from it, nor been disturbed by it seemingly. So I’m curious if anyone has had this happen.

Below is a video and a listing of the little equipment I have running.

Innovative Marine 100 Gallon INT Aquarium with full plumbing/sump included.
Two AI Hydra 32 HD lights.
Eheim Jager Thermocontrol 200/250 (can’t recall)
Fluval Sea Circulation Pump CP3

I have about 20lbs of TBS live rock, and about 80lbs of aquacultured live rock from LFS.

The clicking happens randomly it seems, lights on or off and seems to be coming toward the back of the tank, but that could just be because it’s against that wall. Anyone have any ideas? Just want to make sure everything is fine and I won’t wake up one morning to a huge mess in my living room. The clicking has been happening for a month or two now.

Any assistance would greatly be appreciated by my reef, the members of my household, and our sanity haha.

Mine was a mantis. 6”. Beat the crap out of two bottom dwellers. No live rock ever used. Must have escaped detection for years. Stalks at night.

Clicking from time to time, in the back.

Found by chance. Destroyed.

Update! Finally saw the mantis shrimp yesterday and was relieved I wasn’t crazy. Tried making a trap with a water bottle and frozen mysis shrimp but it didn’t work. It instead caught a gorilla crab.

Fast forward to this afternoon, with the gorilla crab still trapped, out of the tank, I decided to use him as bait, along with half a cube of mysis shrimp (dissolved this time, last time it was still cube like) and for extra measure a small bit of freeze dried blood worms.

Within minutes the shrimp was investigating the bottle, and over the course of a two hour period, went into the lip of the bottle but decided to not take the bait.

Lights went out not too long ago, and the shrimp was being more bold. With that I was able to secure him with tweezers and a net, although in the process, slightly pushing on my bubble tip nem. The nem looks fine, as does the shrimp, not really sure what to do with him as the clicking was driving me crazy haha.

I had to destroy mine.
Was PO he killed two long term fish before caught.
If it was a peacock mantis I would setup a smaller separate tank for it. But yeah, I didn’t want to tank the chance and leave it in. I still hear a clicking sound though…..no wrasses either (referencing the below reply)

If you hear clicking, you have one.
They “hunt” is darkness.

Strap some food to a rock and watch with red light at night.
