I have had my tank set up for 1 month and the water is still cloudy. Lights have been off, and all that currently is in the tank is live sand. I know that cloudy water is normal on new tanks, but didn’t think it would still be 1 month later. My LFS recommended me to get a UV sterilizer at $400, but others say don’t buy; as the water will eventually clear up on its own. Thoughts?

Cloudy water is typically due to new sand debri or bacterial blooms.

In a new tank, I would think sand issues though... unless you're carbon dosing for some crazy reason, lol.

It should have settled by now, though. So...

What is your flow?
What type of sand substrate?
Do you see your substrate shifting around with the flow?
What kind of mechanical filtration do you use? (Ie: filter socks?)
Are you using RODI water?

Currently using one sock and one cup with floss.
