I unplugged everything to stop water flow as I was in the room at the time. The neotherm 150 stopped working so I placed the neotherm 200 into sump, let it get to temperature for 45 minutes then plugged it into apex. Within 3 minutes there was a pop and smoke rolling...let’s say the last neotherm will be coming out of this tank also...
I’m making saltwater right now to replace water in sump. If it was only smoke and a pop but heater is intact did this put anything into the water? It definitely stinks, smells awful, window is open.

Had this happen to an ATS light. Fell in the sump and popped and smoked a ton. Didn't do a WC, but did change to fresh carbon. Everything was fine.

Actually the only thing that happened, all my vermetid snails died! No really, I've posted about it many times. lol I of course wouldn't suggest anyone try it to rid themselves of vermetid snails.

After checking the tag said 2012, it was one of those! I should’ve checked the tag before putting it into the sump...oh well.
People still having problems with Cobalts dying? 150 w models? Anyone have input?

I have the 300 watt version since March... So far no problem. Will replace with titanium ones next year...

I personally now stay away from the Neotherm in any display tank, especially the 150W and 250W models. Far too many stories like this, and they keep coming. I also don't believe the newer ones are any less likely to crack than the older ones. I'll use one to heat up freshly made saltwater in a container, but that's it.

My didn’t explode but stuck on high and cooked and killed most of my tank inhabitants. It was a 150 watt, not sure on the year... guessing 2016/17

That's where the last one is going. Salt mix bucket only or trashcan

This one popped, smoked but I couldn't find a split. Still stinks back there.
