I like all the old stuff but I don't see a lot of love for the newer metal.
I'm a huge Deftones fan (nu metal I know)-Headup, 7 words, You've seen the Butcher, rocket skates, too many to name. Been a fan for 25 years.
Kataklysm-In Shadows and Dust
Snot-everything
Slipknot-most everything

Ok, giving it a go but I’m going to need a longer tape. Any combination of 10 of these would keep me happy for a long time. Honestly I could come up with another 100 I like just as much but this is a pretty good representation of what I would pick.

Queen of the Ryche - Queensryche
Wolf - Iced Earth
Reign of Fire - Armored Saint
The Sentinel - Judas Priest
Beast and the Harlot - Avenged Sevenfold
Welcome Home - Coheed & Cambria
Metropolis Pt 1, the miracle and the sleeper - Dream Theater
Guardian - Fates Warning
Phantom of the Opera - Iron Maiden
Liar Liar (Wasteland Monarchy) - Kamelot
The End of Heartache - Killswitch Engage
Seek and Destroy - Metallica
Cemetary Gates - Pantera
Ragged Tooth - Protest the Hero
Battle Angels - Sanctuary
This Momentary Bliss - Soilwork
Of Mind: Nocturne - Tesseract
Nice to see Coheed on here!

Truthfully I haven't heard much "new" metal since the late '80's....I started listening to the Dead:cool:.

I'm sure I'd approve, but I have my old Maiden, Slayer and Metallica if I need to shake the house.

Dave Meniketti is still going strong. Y&T really doesn’t sound like anybody else. If you like the classic era check out Unearthed vol 1 and 2. Lots of old demos Dave finished and released a few years ago. Covers all eras but mostly older stuff.

Ok, already found a new favorite :). 16 Tons.

Not that it matters - thanks. My wallet is about 60 bucks lighter tonight but I'm enjoying this.

Always happy to help lighten a wallet in pursuit of new music. Good to know I’m not alone.

Second band I ever saw live was Y+T, sandwiched between Dokken and Twisted Sister(Stay Hungry tour) at the Orpheum in Boston. That was a great show.

That’s a great lineup, I would have liked to have seen that show. Dokken was actually the first band I ever saw live, opening for Dio on the Last in Line tour at the Oakland Coliseum arena. I was not ready for how loud it was when Dokken hit the stage and started playing Tooth and Nail.

4 horseman is a good call. I also like Megadeath's side of it.

While I'm a huge fan of the lad from Belfast (Gary Moore) I have to say that I grew up listening to a lot of George Lynch. Such an earthy spiritual player. Very underrated guitarist. So many but darn is that guy a great player.

{taking notes} I like the metal. Big fan of a lot of jams here. Misfits, dio, ozzy/sabbath, and especially Metallica. Metallica was eclipsing all metal when I was younger. I love rage against the machine (not sure I’d call that metal, but I saw that in the mix. It’s heavy for sure. Speaks my language) , but I think I like morello’s solo stuff even more, which is far from metal. I love it, I just don’t make enough time for it. In my younger years, it was a big part of my music. I’ll add that and justice for all, master of puppets, and ride the lightning probably have half of my top ten metal songs. I know those albums well.

Some great lists here! Definitely no order, but...

1. Pantera - Im Broken
2. White Zombie - Black Sunshine
3. Slayer - Divine Intervention
4. Metallica - And Justice For All
5. Alice In Chains - Them Bones
6. Megadeth - Angry Again
7. Sepultura - Roots Bloody Roots
8. Cannibal Corpse - From Skin to Liquid
9. Tool - Sober
10. Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath

Man, could just keep going!

I thought I was pretty intelligent on metal music, but thanks to these lists, I'm learning some new music to look up and listen to. I'm more hair metal but here is an attempt to make a list of ten. No particular order.

Nightmare - Avenged Sevenfold
Wasted Years - Iron Maiden
Rock 'n' Roll Party In The Street - Axe
Heaven and Hell - Black Sabbath
Crazy ***** - Buckcherry
Holy Diver - Ronnie James Dio
Screaming in the Night - Krokus
Tangled in the Web - Lynch Mob
No Leaf Clover - Metallica
B.Y.O.B. - System of a Down
Boys Are Back In Town - Thin Lizzy

Note, my favorite band of all time is Rush but there's no way I can put just one song on the list. Also love me some Satriani.

Nice lists , love them!

You know it's funny you mention this, and how our musical tastes change as we get older. While I was a true metal up your *** kind of kid in the 80's, and I of course still listen to those albums. I also really like the classic 70's southern rock.

And yet today in my mid 40's I find I listen to a lot of todays country(I find it's very similar to the older southern rock). Of course it helps that where I happen to live, todays country is the only channel I get on my car radio that actually works!
